I just reformatted my work system and went to download the console app (before installing drivers for devices that weren't found by Win2K :D) and 3.26 beta is no longer current ... shows how often I check the Stanford site ...

So 4.00 is current now, eh? Should I replace all of my 3.26 beta clients with 4.00? What command line options should I use on the AMD boxen? What command line options should I use on the Intel clients? Can I still monitor them with Electron Microscope? Will my current score increase, or will points earned with 4.00 go toward a different project?

Sorry for all the questions, I was just slightly confused by the appearance of 4.00 :)

The 4.0 client is now the current client, so it would be best to download and use it. Check out the changes here and you might find some goodies of use in the new version. In the short term, you're not losing anything by sticking with the 3.26 client on the currently running machines, but I'd try and work the upgrade in when you get a chance since you'll eventually need it. Note that the -forceasm has been replaced with -forceSSE on the 4.0 client and I think you might need to make sure you use the latest EM to monitor it. Other than that, I haven't heard of any problems with it, so go ahead and get it installed!

Not so much replaced as supplemented. On an AMD machine with both 3dnow and SSE, -forceasm will use 3dnow and –forceSSE will use SSE.

I guess I just haven't tried -forceasm on the 4.0 client to see what it would do. It's nice to have the 3Dnow option if you've got an AthlonXP that's locking up frequently.

I think I will have to use forceasm ... I did have an Athlon XP that locked up frequently, and it locked up when I wasn't in its presence (it's my work box :D) so I'd lose a whole night's work ...

Those stupid things always do that when you're not around. They never lock up when you're sitting there looking at them and can reboot right away, do they? :) Just the other day I reset one machine to use -forceasm (running 3.26 client) and it locked up this morning. I thought maybe I'd risk it and see how it did, but I guess it didn't do any better than the last time I was using SSE optimizations.
