FAH died...

I setup my notebook this week to fold seeing as how it runs just about full time (DVR) and seeing as how college pays the power bill why not let my computer do something productive.

So I installed 6.20 standard with the gui got it running for a day or two and had to shut down. The next time I started fah (forgot auto run at the time) it asked me to config the client again and then was about to download more work so I stopped that and moved the work from the last time to the new location (install folder vs user folder).

Anyways I just restarted my computer again and now FAH just sits like an idiot and does nothing... So in a few days I have managed to setup and kill fah

I tried a few times to make sure the path was correct in the reg (windows box) and a few other things, but it comes down to I can't get it going again.

Anyways here is the log file from the last attempt to get it going again:

Folding@Home Client Shutdown.

Any suggestions on how I can get this folding again and why this path/config issue might have happened? I was going to setup a few boxes at home on the weekend, but if they are going to die after a few restarts I don't want to waste the time.

Check your log file. All I'm seeing are symbols in your uploaded text.

A couple of things:

- install F@H in a folder OTHER than c:\program files\ There have been issues in the past (and probably present) with installing and running in the folder. Most install to the root drive and go from there.

- if you're not totally hooked on the systray version, try the console version

If you've move any part from the standard install place, I would make a new shortcut to start it with.
Also double check that the "Start In" box is pointing at the correct folder where your data is.
If it asked you to reconfig, then the program is not looking at your new data folder.

I tend to move both parts into a C:/FaH folder.
The part with the program files in gets renamed Prog. C:/FaH/Prog
The part with the data files in gets renamed Data. C:/Fah/Data
If I've more than one data folder, due to more than one client, then its Data1, Data2, etc, etc. C:/Fah/Data1, C:/Fah/Data2 .......
When I make the new shortcut by right click on the folding.exe -> make shortcut, all I do is change Prog to Data in the "Start In" box and its good to go.
Or Data1, Data2 etc if making more than 1 shortcut.
One of my GPU clients look like ......

Launch directory: C:\FaH\Data8
Arguments: -verbosity 9 -gpu 7

Hello,

Sorry about the delay in responding. I relocated the install as Tigerbiten suggested and use the shortcut to get it looking in the right directory for the work. It didn't work the first attempt or two so I cleared everything out and started again. I was able to some how get it going again so hopefully in the next day or two I should have another happy WU being uploaded
