Factory Temp

Hello all,

I bought myself a middle of the road Q6600 based system. I plan on replacing the factory heatsink once I pay my initial purchase off, 9-12months. In the mean time I have to use the factory heatsink.

I am having a hard time finding any artciles that give average expected temps, idle and under load, for the factory stock. I'm idling in windows around 42-44C, no core is ever off the scale from each other by greater than 4 degrees. However 30 sec of prime 95 and im in the 65-66. I know Intel says you max out at 70, but that doesnt mean I should be happy with sitting at 69.9 with a factory fan does it?

What program you use to get the reading. I use core temp since is the most accurate. I will suggest to get zalman 9700 LED. This super copper cooler drop my temp 10 idle and around 12c under load. I have the QX6700. Stock coolers are crap for me, especially if you OC your CPU.

Temps also depend on your ambient temperature, if it's 100°F in your room, temps probably aren't going to drop much below 40°C.

Anyway, as for average temperatures, most reviews don't really hit that. =/ Your best bet is to search around different forums and you can get an idea of *about* where your temps should be.

As for your situation, the stock cooler does what's needed at stock frequencies, but it may seem warm to some of us...I mean have you seen temps in OEM systems?

My temps at 66 66 62 62 q6600 g0 @ 3.2ghz 1.31 volts running prime 95 for 4 1/2 hours so far... might be able to drop the voltage a bit and reduce that temp...but I'm not worried about it....your temps might be a bit high for stock but with the intel cooler I wouldn't think it's such a surprise.

Those are fine temps, keep it below 70 and don't worry about anything else.

Your ambient temp of your room will make a difference but that said those temps are about right for the stock heatsink.

Just to let you know I tried the stock heatsink, just to see what temps it gave, and those are more or less on the money.

Though bear in mind I had a very concave heatspreader on my Quad but that's a whole other story...
