I should know better than this. Yesterday I installed Windows 7 on the 980x. The install went fine and one of my top (the top?) priorities was to get back folding again. So I installed and fired up the CPU and GPU clients and I was back in business. This morning I walked into the living room and heard nothing from the PC. Stupid me forgot about setting the power options to not have the PC go into sleep mode. Grrrrrrrrrr.:mad:
 
pfft i've done that plenty of times.. always forgot about the default power settings in windows 7..
 
Yep, just had to reinstall windows and overclocked my PC back to regular. When I came back from work and saw the computer off I thought the oc was messed up, psu died or something along the lines of that.
Not one of my best days.
 
I thought it wouldn't sleep if the cores were at load (even if it was actually set to sleep)? :confused: I guess I would be incorrect. :D
 
Haha, it happens. We have all done that at some point. You figure that Windows would be smarter than to shut down or put a computer to sleep when the GPU's are at 98-99% utilization and all the cpu cores are at 100% utilization :rolleyes:

One would think so but I guess Windows thinks you are not using the computer if you aren't touching the mouse or keyboard.

nope it wont go to sleep if you have something downloading in say a torrent client or IE until its finished.. as far as the cores being under load it doesnt care..

Also with the windows update setting. Gotta remember to set that to Download Only.

+1. I've come in to my home office numerous times to see my computer off or had rebooted and was sitting at the desktop...

Every time that happens I always fear something burnt up or died..Am I paranoid or what>:D

 
I don't assume something died, I assume my overclock is unstable.....("crap, back into the BIOS.....oh wait! It was just Windows Update!!")
 
One the first things I do to any computer of mine is go into windows and disable all power saving features so it's full on all the time. If I'm not using the monitor it's off, the rest is usually Folding. :)
 
There are too many things to "forget" to do when setting up a new PC. It just happens and you won't be the last person to do it :D

 
If you have F@H installed as service you can leave auto updates on.
