My only SFF, a packard bell, received a facelift.
Now if your thinking in a whiney voice "Shouldnt this be in the case mod section?" No. Im not doing a log of me in various stages painting. Im just here to show off my old-OLD-school SFF gaming rig.
Since many people laugh at me having an old PC, Im here to show it off. To prove that the gaming rig used in my sig for the old school SFF, is not as big of a peice of crap, nor near embarrasing as it may seem.
It does run windows 98 quite nicely. I did try windows xp on it, but didnt have the sanity.
64 megs ram, 2 gig Cavair hard drive, 4x cdrom, built in sound, 33.6k modem... Yeah, It has a hemi.
Using 94 cent rattlecans of walmart paint (Acrylic laquer) I sanded off that dammed textured beige case.
Black is one of my favorite colors to paint my cars, so I painted my case black. Woulda done metal-flake blue or something, but I havent found a good way to get the metal flake look on cases using 94c rattle cans, but trust me, im working on it.
Its a huge picture, and my free webhost will probably hate me for linking to my account at hardforum (48,000 members now, who knows how many people click on my pictures).
I set "The Others" VHS cassete tape box on the case to show it off. Its Purdy...
The camera was sitting very close to the case, so yes everything within about 4" away from the center of that VHS tape is way out of focus and blurry.
and note, I did wetsand only once after painting the black, using a peice of wore out 300 grit and that is it.
Im a lazy ass, here is how I did it. Once I quickly wetsanded the dusty lumpy stuff off from the crappy plugged paint cans first black layer, I took a can of clear.
still the 94 cent paint. I sprayed it on thick and heavy on the top lid. Why? I absolutley hate cases with orange peel texture on the paint. It was about 50F outside, and colder in my shop. the paint would take quite some time to dry, and this let it flow out smoothly on the case lid. It was sitting flat and level on my chair, so It went on thick and it flowed out very smooth and mostly texture free.
Not bad for 1/2 hours worth of work. I figure that im probably the only one with "SFF - Old school gamer & modder" In my sig. At least you all know im rolling around on the [H] with the sweetest packard bell out there. This thing would kick butt in games if it were new, with all this ram and... and stuff...
Anyways, Im getting ready to load up the goods. Doom I & II, got a USB 10mbs ethernet adapter working, im tweaking it a bit and overclocking her. Cannon fodder, hugos house of horros, and a load of C64 games used with an emulator.
Anyone else into playing old games? I find that my windows xp machine doesnt like dos games at all.
Cannon fodder... Commander Keen... Doom....Decent....Wolfenstien.... Mmmm...
And Yes, I do use this computer from time to time, to browse the hardforum and download junk.
