Any way for me to get rid of this awful virus without buying some new software?

This article describes it perfectly:
http://canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5gMlxpbYtSH9TQfiSkURqN0qzE6Zw

"On Facebook, the virus is causing email messages to be sent to people on "friends" lists asking them to watch a video supposedly on YouTube. A user has to download what purports to be a [Flash] plug-in to watch the video."

As a bonus negative, my account on Facebook has now been disabled because the virus has sent a ton of messages to other people I know

I am less worried about online gaming and more about the fact that everything on my computer operates at greulingly slow speeds now...

Thanks to anyone who knows how to handle this better than I do...

majorgeeks.com ..download AntiVir free antivirus that has very good detection

Firefox with "no script" add-on
SuperAntivirus - install , update and run
CCleaner to clean up junk files and clean up registry

google your virus to possibly find some specific tool(s) to remove your particular virus ..of which might be found at majorgeeks.com as well

Just ran all of this and the malwarebytes anti-malware and deleted 6 Trojans. Internet is running a lot faster and my google actually works now. Feels like this did the job. Hopefully I can get my Facebook account back.

Thanks a lot for the help!

Uh oh, maybe not.

Upon reboot, I just got this message from Symantec. "Delete succeeded : Access denied" doesn't sound as promising as I would probably like:

Scan type: Auto-Protect Scan
Event: Threat Found!
Threat: W32.Koobface.B
File: C:\windows\fbtre9.exe
Location: C:\windows
Computer: NYCXL-INB597
User: BARNAB
Action taken: Delete succeeded : Access denied

Boot into safe mode and run the scan.
