According to Time, Facebook has become more popular than pornography.

When I wrote last week's column comparing the social-networking sites MySpace and Facebook, I included a line after my signature stating that I had only 124 friends on Facebook, and urged readers to add me as their friends. As of today I have 261 new Facebook friends, the majority of which are Generation Y college students.

Only because people won't admit they surf for porn.

Personally, I find the online social sites such as facebook and myspace to be pathetic. Get a life...
Online porn, just as pathetic. Once again, get a life...

What about posting on message boards? Dude, get a life!

I'll also add that people who say other people need to get a life should get a life.

I think anyone who says get a life to others who say people to get a life should get a life.

Oh, and I prefer online porn over facebook. I've seen a dozen better applications for social networking. Facebook seems really crude somehow.

I created an account just to see what the fuzz was about.. and I was like wtf? This is it? Maybe there was more information after you sent a request to someone but I was not going to a) log in with real credentials b) admit to any friend of going there. :p

I avoid MySpace at all costs and I've never even been on Facebook. Then again, I don't surf for porn either.

Just give me a couple decent forums, some webpages with decent info, a good search engine and a couple of violence laden online video games and I'm usually a happy camper.

I guess I'm just the exception to the rule.

pwned!

According to the article though, it's "Social Networking" sites that are more popular than "adult entertainment." When you consider that Social Networking include MySpace, Xanga, as well as Facebook, it's not really that surprising. For males I bet porn is still #1, but for everyone between 18 and 24? I'd believe it.

Some people I know have made Myspace pages for their dogs. Why in God's name would you do that? Is this like the new Geocities, Angelfire, or Tripod?

This is seriously stupid. Anyone who says they don't look at porn online is LYING. You can't even google search food without getting a pornsite link now. Whether by accident or intentional, you WILL end up looking at porn, and whether you admit it or not you don't hit the back button very quickly.

I admit it freely. I'm all about the hot nasty women that I'll never have. Ironically, you'll never catch me on Myspace.

Myspace, facebook, et al, are gayer than two sailors fighting over a bag of c**ks, IMHO.

When I read stories like this it makes me wonder what has gone wrong with the youth of today. Porn not #1, what is the world coming to.

I'm not one of those 'addicted' to social networking, but I don't find Facebook gay either.

I have used Facebook to reconnect to friends that I havn't spoken to for almost 8 years since I moved to Canada from the UK. Without Facebook, I would have had no way of getting back in touch with the, believe me, I tried.

Some people however, treat it as life - that's a little excessive. I for one, am not one of those people.

If facebook is so damn popular then why the hell do I not know what it is. Less than a week after one of these sites pop up there ruined by spammers anyway. Whats the use, spammers have ruined Myspace, you tube and just about everyhting else.

I haven't partaken in Facebook and probably won't.

So, in my case, pr0nography is more popular than Facebook is. :D

I spend a lot more time looking at porn than one either facebook or any other social networking site.

Nows a time for a entrepreneur to step up and combine the two to create Pornbook and take over the internet.

Isn't Sucide Girls like that? Isn't that what got one of the girls there in trouble a few years back when Nintendo went after them after one of the girls posted her favorite games in her profile/blog section.

Haven't been to the site, just goiing off of this from awhile back. http://www.penny-arcade.com/2004/10/29

I would say that "social networking" websites are helpful in nature, as with me, I have been able to contact old friends I have not talked to for years and rebuilt an old friendship.

Though it seems a certain percent seem to "abuse" these "social networking" websites for other means and that is why people hate them, which is why I use Facebook less and less.

I find this hard to believe, who takes Facebook to read with them while sitting on the throne?
