How about we just have one big news article that just tells us who Facebook did NOT share data with? That would seem to require a lot less typing by a whole lot of people. It seems that Facebook's Zuckerberg forgot to mention that it was sharing data on US with Chinese companies as well.

“Clearly, the company’s partnerships with Chinese technology companies and others should have been disclosed before Congress and the American people,” the panel’s Republican chairman Greg Walden and ranking Democrat Frank Pallone said in a statement.

On Tuesday, Facebook said Huawei, computer maker Lenovo Group, and smartphone makers OPPO and TCL Corp were among about 60 companies worldwide that received access to some user data after they signed contracts to re-create Facebook-like experiences for their users.

If it hasn't become clear already: your data is a currency, and a very high valued one at that.

Giving this currency away for a service isn't a bad idea, when you really get something remotely worth the currency. But you're not getting that on facebook, because look at how much more value they extract out of the exact same currency.

Instead of you getting to be your agent, choosing partners and taking in the revenue (be that in services or monetary), facebook takes your data and assumes ownership, then making crazy bank of selling it to places you would never have sold it to, like the Chinese.

I think facebook's services have value. I don't think that value is at all what you should be getting for your data. But that's an individual decision.

Wait, I think Facebook has pulled off a miracle. They have done something SO BAD that both Republicans and Democrats are in agreement that it was bad.

ehh... it's none of their business anyway. congress is just knows slamming fb (and other related tech companies) looks good for them right now. you know, to take away from the fact that they're not actually doing anything else worthwhile.

besides, when's the last time you heard congress get in a hissy fit at IBM in China? or MS? or Google? any number of others that you know do it and have big research centers or operations there.
