Codemasters announced earlier that the awaited F1 2010 game based on their ego engine (grid & dirt2) is coming out this September! I can't wait, it'll be near the end of the F1 season and I'll be itching for more F1 through the winter.. September is so far away but I'm excited regardless! Anyone else looking forward to it?

Sweet :) I was wondering if this game was going to make it out. Open-Wheel in GRID was a ton of fun, I hope this has close to the same feeling.

I've been looking forward to this also ever since loving open wheel in grid as well.

lol, i didn't realize that i didn't...puncuate appropriately .. grids not a sim, no argument there. heh. it's like an action simlike experience... GTR is my favorite racer by a long shot but grid was a fun racer. something to use when you need a break from siming

I too have been looking forward to this game...but I hope the pc version gets equal treatment that the consoles get.

If F1 2010 is anything at all like Grid, it will be an utter failure. F1 requires strict adherence to physical principles in order to properly recreate the driving experience.

finaly the first decent post in this thread.

god knows why most people want a f1 game to be an arcade fested bumper cars ie grid. f1 is suppose to be a simulator. this game will fail if it doesnt aim to be a sim of some sort.

i fucking wished PD had teh licence for f1. gran tourismo liek physics on and f1 car is what we need

are there any decent sim-oriented racers currently available for PC? I really liked GT4 on PS2, and GRID, while fun at first, got boring fast due to the arcade controls. I don't need a full blown race sim, just something that requires hitting the apex properly and doesn't allow you to bang your way to first every round.

Fingers crossed. Man I dont wanna get my hopes up but there has not been a decent F1 PC Title since GP4 and that was only because of all the mods available.

GTR evo and the up and coming rfactor 2 blows away GT4/Forza 3

Have u not tried rfactor's f1 mods? they are brilliant

No honestly I dropped out of the F1 scene a couple years ago at least the PC gaming side of it. I googled rfactor and yeah it looks pretty nice. I think I need to use this weekend's GP to get me back in the mood for gaming

obviously with it being designed with the ego engine it's not going to be a full blown all out sim. Dirt 2 was hardly a hardcore sim so I know what I should expect. I wish Microprose was still around and could give a real diehard F1 sim or if SimBin could have done this it would be the most brutal F1 sim ever. I'm not expecting much of a sim, but just the fact that we're getting an F1 game finally is a start. Who knows maybe it's their first dib in making a real sim... we'll see when it comes out.

and anyone comparing GTR with GTA/Forza... there's no comparison GTR blows both of those away! GTR for the win anyday

I'm extremely excited for this...hopefully Codemasters does a good job, because they have a lot of potential here. I was worried that given all the radio silence from Codemasters on this title meant they didn't have anything to show for it, but September is close!

To all those people who are already bitching about it coming from Codemasters: wake up, it's the first official F1 PC game in ages. The future may not look like the past, regarding their history of arcade oriented racers -- who knows.

Not intending to be a troll post, buuut...

Some of you would really enjoy shifter kart racing, and could probably afford it too.

Yeah! I loved the open wheel racing in GRID , looking forward to this, also I hope there working on GRID 2. If they are in fact working on G2 then I hope they include more demolition derby tracks.

there's a good F1 mod for GTR that i've seen on the net, I think it's on simracingworld.somewhere, Might jump on and give that a go to tide me over for F1.

I've seen some of those shifter karts before, that would be alot of fun. From what I remember they get some good speed in them too. I always wanted to try one of those racing schools someday, when I get a car setup i'd love to start doing autocrossing.. etc..

toca3 indy cars are a million times better then grid's. grids is like a demo derby, way too chaotic. toca is precision, sharp handling and focus, and i really really hope its that way in F1 2010.

Imagine nba 2k10 or nba live 2010 being nothing but a arcade fested bball game. not right aint it?

if your going to use the proper licence of a sport, usualy that means people expect it to be a sim no a arcade game

All i can say is please be a sim! if we get grid like gameplay i will cry then smash the game an return to r factor f1 mods.

i know. you know there will be at least a "assisted driving" mode that will be arcady as hell, but i just fear that will be the actual gameplay like it is in GRID. that stuff is fun, but there is nothing like having your mind completely focused as it is in a real sim.... because one fuck up and thats it youre out. the way it should be.

I think it's fine to expect it to be a sim, but I don't think including assists which makes if feel more arcade-like (for more casual players that wish to play with them on) is mutually exclusive with allowing sim gameplay as well.

I just don't think people should shit all over the title before we hear anything about it (I haven't read anything that said "we're making F1 Arcade"), just based on GRID. Codemasters is very capable, lets see where they go with this.

Oh and your analogy reminds me of how much I used to love NBA Jam....whatever happened to those games.

they are using the GRID engine and well have you not played GRID at all? Codemasters are capable of making a sim, they have done so in the past ie TOCA but times have changed and so has their way.

there is nothing wrong with having driving aids. Forza has them but i HIGHLY doubt that when you take off all the aids, it will drive realistic.

Do you honestly think this game will be as real as forza 3? doubt it but we'll see.

Nobody knows at this point, so I think it's a bit unfair to pass judgment at the moment -- we may be surprised with what they produce.

im 90% certain this game will be like GRID gameplay. i cant understand how they can implement real life physics and handling on the current GRID engine.

Maybe they can hench why that 10% is just incase im wrong

At least the game will be based on the 2010 season. The cars this year look mighty sexy and a damn sight better than 2009 without those ridiculous wheel fairings and hideous nose cones. Never played GRID but I've seen rFactor with a few mods that impressed me greatly. If Codemaster some how fails to replicate what a few community modders created...I'll be sorely disappointed. But would probably pick up the game anyways.

i didnt think the graphics engine used had that much to do with how you decide the cars will handle... grid could easily have been super crisp and clean like TOCA, but they wanted cartoonish handling to go along with their over-bloomed visuals because thats how they thought us stupid kids wanted it:(

I really don't think this has anything to do with the engine -- they can modify whatever they'd like. It has more with what codemasters believes is the best direction for their sales performance. Realistically I think it will have the option to have a lot of assists on, allowing for casual players, and an option to run with all assists off, allowing for more hardcore players. Who knows though, so far all we have are two screenshots.

Bingo, you have just quoted one vital reason why this game will be pure arcade to attrack the 10-15 year olds to buy this game.

Their are probably more kids who play games then adults so targeting kids/teenagers can produce more sales for them.

Also check this out. We have more info about this game and they are already abandoning things that, well are part of an f1 race!
- Laser Scanned Track Data – Considered early on in the project we assessed for our needs and decided against its inclusion in favour of other features. Our track creation pipeline has been further developed and we’re now capable of producing extremely authentic environments, track surfaces included, without the need for this data.

- Safety Car – A common forum request but investigation proved, surprisingly, that this actually offers very little in terms of enjoyable game experience in comparison to other game elements we’ll reveal later. Once you find out what we spent the time on instead we’re sure you’ll agree that this was the right decision!

- Formation Lap – Currently not part of the plan, for the same reasons as safety car. This is not to say we won’t look to add a little of what the formation lap provides!

- A Feeder Series – We’re at full-stretch creating an engaging Formula One experience. Including a feeder series is not part of the deal we have and code support alone would take too much away from the main game to prove worthwhile in 2010.

- Split Screen – Some of you will have noticed this is not present in any recent Codemasters racing titles. Early on we established the huge amount of resources this feature would consume and, after weighing against our need to move the series in an original direction, made the tough decision that F1 2010 would not be the project to return Split Screen. We have included an interesting local multiplayer mode in its place and an extensive online multiplayer mode.

The last part is the punch line. no split screen. If i was a console only user, i would be pissed.

graphics engine? no such thing. there is a GAME-ENGINE. actually, the graphics engine they use for the 360 and pc is direct X.

Anyways back to my point, the game engine has everything to do with handling, physics, graphic algorithms, sounds, AI etc etc. basicaly everything to do with the game.

They would have to re-code a fair chunk of code for them to change the physics, handling and ai which kind of represents most of a actual game engine.

If they did that, they wont be using the "same" engine has GRID. they would be using GRID engine 2.0 or maybe a whole new engine.

By teh time this game comes out, 2010 season would be over. They should have brought out this game between now and june.

Its like bringing out a NBA game towards the end of the season and calling it nba 2010.

It's a bit of a bummer that they aren't using the 'laser scanned' track data, but to be frank, I'm sure they've bought data from someone else that allows them to create a faithful track creation. I'm not exactly going to whine that they don't have a safety car implemented, and the same about the feeder series. I'm interested to hear what they have implemented to replace the formation lap, but that's a very minor loss. Lets see what they produce, and I suppose worst comes to worst, we'll see mods arriving to change things up.

The final race of the season at Yas Marina is somewhere in November. The OP mentioned something about September.

I do agree though, an earlier release would make more sense for the end user but lots of things change over the course of the championship. I think September will be fine, near the end but not the absolute end. When teams outside of the championship run will be focusing on 2011 and those still in the run will be throwing whatever upgrades they can onto a relatively complete car.

Even though it's coming out near the conclusion of the 2010 season, at least it'll be there to fill in the time of the off season ;)

safety car would be nice if it were implemented. I don't know what they'll do to replace that.... will the race keep going in such a situation or will the ai take over during those conditions.. we'll have to see. I'm not sure what effect the lack of laser scanned track data will result in, but like a poster already said I"m sure they can access such data through other developers, etc..

The formation lap kinda has me wondering though, since F1 doesn't allow the tire warmers anymore. That formation lap is somewhat critical to get the tires as warms as possible for the race start. Still 6 months of hearing information and predicting what we'll get. I know the hardcore sim market isn't the biggest market but I hope we get as close to a real F1 sim as we can get
