F:\My Documents is not accessible???

Last night I reinstalled my XP-Pro system because it was sluggish. My new 160gig Drive F: contained all my extraneous, but neccessary, files. In the formating and installation of XP I left Drive F untouched. I then proceeded to finish the install and the installed all the drivers. As far as I could tell everything went smoothly.

The problem:
I can access Driver F: and all the other root folders in it EXCEPT "My Documents". I thought this problem could be related to user permissions so I logged in as the top "Administrator" and still got the error message. "F:\My Documents is not accessible." That directory contains approximately 50gigs worth of music, movies, and documents. But it says it contains 0 bytes.

The model number is WDC WD1600JB-00GVAO.
The brand is Western Digital.

Right now I am running WD's Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. Its going thru an "Extended Test".

Why can't I gain access to "F:\My Documents"
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I noticed that in WD's Digital Data Diagnostic software, it recognized that Drive F: has a substantial amount of data on it because it says there is 60gigs of free space from 160gigs. It says about half of that drive is filled.

Whats going on???
 
take ownership over the folder - it set permissions with the old install of windows and it doesnt want to let you back in. as long as you didnt encrypt this stuff, its fairly easy to get back.

right click on it.
properties.
security tab
advanced
owner tab
change the owner to your current windows account, check replace owner on subcontainers and objects, and apply. you should have access now.

edit: ah hell, thats what the MS links said :p
 
Problem solved.

For possible future problems.
Go: Start->Help and search "Take Ownership". Then in the left column of 'Tasks' select Take ownship of file or folder.
