I just d/l'ed the demo, installed it watched the into movies played it and then when you get into the pipes below and the lights flicker. I was like "whats this all about", I was really getting nervous, until I see this figure walk across and I'm like what the hell is that thing. I walk some more and the lights flicker and then i see the little girl, HOLY crap she scared me outta my seat even though the lights in my room are on and I'm eating a piece of carrot cake. I immediately pressed ESC and uninstalled the game, long story short, I don't plan on buying this game, Im a scaredy cat.

You didnt even to the good part, where it gets really scary!! Btw, I unloaded a clip on the little girl. I was a little jumpy. LOL!

HA HA HA!! Give it another try, OuTLaWzSm. I'm a wuss and didn't make it any farther the first time I tried the demo. I gave it another try the next day and really enjoyed it. Yeah, it is still scary, but once you get into the gameplay and get the feeling of playing a legitimate badass, some of that subsides.

Different strokes, though. I just recommend another stab at it. I ussually can't play these kinds of games, but did enjoy the demo. :)

Damn, it's only a game. Do you get up and leave theaters if they are playing a scary movie?

haha when it started getting to that point in the game I turned it off too, I didn't uninstall it, I'll probably eventually play it, but I will have to be in a different mood. I'm not too into games that scare me(I never bought doom 3), not a big fan of horror movies either(although most of them have ridiculous plots anyway).

my girlfried is easily scared so we played through it(her aiming me moving and she had my headphones on) she got so pissed at me for gettign her scared especially

I think you guys are a little too easily frightened. The parts in question were weird, yes, but not even close to being scary. Some people need to play Silent Hill...

There were some scary points, and I hope the game keeps that behavior in the full version. I agree with what most people have been saying, it's not a game that keeps you paranoid like Doom 3, but one that scares you at certain times, which I like better.

I don't get it, FEAR never scared me. Undying is still the only game that has managed to freak me out.

I'm with ya buddy. Also I got up, screamed gibberish and went to my dog for re-assurance when I saw the little girl.

I don't get you guys. NONE of the games mentioned in this thread scared me in the slightest.

Pansies!

I'm a little pansy too, I don't really like games that make me jump, HL2 and Doom3 were pretty jumpy on their own. I'll watch people play FEAR, but if I play, I'll probably be nervous as shit.

OuTLaWzSm - Your story was funny, I would've done the same, except I'd shut off the monitor then the speakers, then the power button manually. haha

Thats a good tip, I think I will do that with my wife. Will post results later
:D :D :D

My wife is a 20 year old Japanese collage student that is very conservative :p

You uninstalled the game? And I thought I was a pussy... :p I mean I'll admit, there were parts in the demo that made my heart race and shit, especially after the bloody hallway part, and then you see the guy in the chair, I just couldn't move LOL!!!

Can I have your wife, Isaacav2? You know... after the two of you get divorced when you scare her with the game. I'm not trying to move in on anyone's territory. Just getting first dibs. :)

God damn, I will not be playing this game. Was playing Doom 3, got to the part where the first scientist turns into a zombie. Promptly quit and never played again.

I'm such a pansy, and Ravenholm took some mustering to get past :p

I think a lot of the fright factor from that instance comes from the disorienting movement of the first-person view when you start to climb down a ladder. When I played through it the first time, I had saved right before I went into that room, said to myself "there are probably enemies at the bottom" and just jumped off the rail instead of using the ladder. No enemies... so I climbed up the ladder to see if I'd missed anything, and the girl simply appeared right in front of me when I got to the top, which wasn't very frightening. I loaded my quicksave from before entering the room, and did it like it was supposed to be done, and it was much better. That's what I get for playing games the way I do.

What's funny is even knowing something is going to happen at the ladder, I still freaked out and unloaded my gun :)

That to me is GREAT pacing/setup knowing something is going to happen and still jump

Scary . . . . no. Suspensful in the same sense that The Ring, The Grudge and others are suspsesful, yes. Maybe its just me.

The demo rocked my world, better than doom3, better than raveholm level in half-life, Do I dare say better that the first time you played Resident Evil.

I mean the way your heatbeat speeds up, bullettime and tunnel vision.... I can't wait to play the full game I bet this will be the best shooter of 2005.

BTW I had doom3 from a friend , only played half of it, the jump out and scare you was not that good, it got old, and repetative, not nearly as good as FEAR looks to be, the bulletime alone will add a new element to the horror game play, for firfights it's awesome...

* Spoiler *****

The ladder was awesome then at the bottom of the ladder, unloaded a half clip into that (thing) LOL!!!

This definetly doesn't sound like a game for me. I played DOOM 3 for awhile and it scared me half to death (especially when the fireball throwing creature crawls out from underneath the steps right after the whispering corpse (first level)) I stopped playing when I reached the part where the living zombie with its guts hanging out was crucified to the ceiling. That was too much for me. I promplty uninstalled the game and hid the cd and never looked back. From what I hear I missed out on the flying fetuses. Same thing with HL2. I played the demo, Ravenholm included, and it didn't really scare me, it was more disturbing than scary. There was way too much gore though and I thought it was unnescessary. I'm never buying that game.

From the sound of things, I probally shouldn't play the F.E.A.R. demo at the risk of wetting my pants. Haha ...

I think FEAR will be more of a pants wetter than Doom, better suspense, and real-fear times, not just jump and out say 'BOO'.

The ladder part was cool , made me jump a bit.

The last game i remember scaring me was Daikatana. but for other reasons.

To me, Doom 3 used cheaply spawning closet monsters to startle the hell out of you and make you jumpy but it got old real quick. The Fear demo hits deeper by playing with your mind a bit and was truly scary. If you immersed yourself in it like I did (lights out, loud 5.1 sound) creeping slowly through the corridors, it was a very chilling experience.

closet monsters

You make them sound gay.

I usually write monster closets, not closet monsters. It was funny. One LOL has been sent your way.

Lol, I don't think you could handle the cuteness. She's Half Japanease and Half Dutch. All I get when someone meets her is "How did she end up with a guy like you?" Its great cause she lets me do what ever I want and she can do what she wants. FREAKY
:D

I'll show her the game tonight

to the OP, lmfao, funny story.

i still have it on my pc, but i think i am the biggest pansy lol. i get out of that car with the guy, i start walking towards that loading dock thing, jump up there, start walking down that "hallway" and the music changes and i was like fuck this! and i ran back out lol. then, all i did was play around with the guns and shoot stuff. lol

im sure i'll play again...lol and it will scare the living shit outa me.

edit!: i played the game...the girl at the begining did scare the fuck out of me lol. the vent closing, i saw it open and thought something would pop out, but it just closed, so i expected that. i killed the guys and shit, and then some armored guys just wooped my ass and i died. :(

I liked the demo, but was disapoited when I couldn't get past the ending sequece. (Stupid of me to try)

**SPOILERS**

Man, this game made me jump. When I went from looking down the ledge in first person, to having the ladder view, but suddenly the evil girl is there, I nearly shat myself. Then, as if I wasn't freaked out enough, there's a dude right in front of you when you get down. This game suceeded in making me fall out of my chair several times.

hmm...i'm surprised no one mentioned this, but you know the part where you go into the sewer and the air duct shuts on you, well you know if you go to the dead body (well bloody skeleton really) the girl will appear behind you....i didn't see it the first time i went through the demo but damn that freaked me out when i went through it again, just something about that giggle she does that makes you wanna unload a whole clip in her face

I unloaded a magazine into the floor, the guy and the wall behind the guy at the bottom of the ladder. lol

Well I just got done playing the demo with my half Japanese 20 year old school girl wife and we had a whole lot of fun. It was a new experience having her move the mouse and me move the charictor. I got the tip from this thread and thaught I would try it out. Its funny because she did not find the game scary at all. Not even the little girl. She just said " I see someone" then I walk over " Oh, I thaught I did." LOL. She didn't have the reflexes to shoot a whole clip in her like everyone else in the forum. Then a little later "I see something ... Where did she go?" I don't know if this sounds funny but I was ROLLING. We managed to get past the first set of gaurds at the door, but we didn't make it very far into the demo, we died at the bigger fight in the hallway. It was hard trying to tell her where to look, but it was quite to my surprise the way things turned out. Of course you'd have to know my wife to understand why she was giggling like a little girl the whole time. All in all we had fun, and I will be buying the game. Now that I softend that idea up for her ;)

I don't know if I make sence, but I'm going to bed.

I think we have an idea. ;)

Doom 3's monster closets ( :D ) can be startling at times, but I never felt that it was genuinely scary. D3 never got the atmosphere down. Where's the spookiness if everything scary bites the dust after a shotgun blast to the face? ;)

I hope they keep the creepiness factor of the little girl in FEAR by never letting us interact directly with her. Keep her appearances random, and give us scenes that make no sense -- so that we're genuinely creeped out. A boss fight with her would completely butcher the horror aspect...

... UNLESS she comes back.... Ooh, scary.;)
