F.E.A.R. 3

I'm glad they fixed these issues so quickly, but to be fair, the game should have shipped with these features to begin with. That being said, I'll take what I can get at this point.

Smart Move. Glad they caught it before a shit storm brewed. Good for their MP playerbase, and good for the SP player base because it makes the game much better :p the patch that is.

Impressed Day 1, Impressed.

Agreed, should have been there on day one. But like you said, at least they are acting quickly to try and resolve these issues.

I think AMD and Nvidia should be working harder with partners on getting proper Eyefinity/Surround support in games. I know there's a couple but it'd be nice to see games launching native.

Patch is back up again!

The patch is live again.

We're still sorting out the details of what went wrong, but to anyone who suffered a loss of profile data, I can only say how deeply embarrassed and sorry we are. There has been some great advice posted on using Windows system restore to restore the trashed profile, and we're investigating other ways to restore rank and progress for everyone else.

Once again, I'd like to say the response on this forum has been amazing. You guys have been a true source of inspiration for everyone I've talked to who has been working long hours on this project.

just beat it..Must say kind of felt underwhelming at the very end. After getting my ass handed through out the entire campaign, i expected a bigger challenge.

Yeah at least they are bothering to fix things instead of just leaving it up to the community to create its own fixes and workarounds.

Will probably pick this up soon... I enjoyed FEAR 2.

The patch was quick and does enable EF and Surround.

I'd recommend setting the FOV manually in the "options.config" to 200, best look for the game I've come across.:D

Agree. Ending was lame, entire last Interval was stupid.

Remainder of the game was very good though.

It would be better if it wasn't 60 dollars or whatever I paid.......$30 on a Steam sale would be about right.

I got a good deal from the TRU sale so i didn't really feel that cheated. I'm just glad i didn't drop down 60 bones for Duke Nukem for nostalgia's sake.

I could be nuts but once I took it to 100-110 or so anything after that made no difference.

Single display setup here FWIW.

Maybe the big numbers are needed for EF??

It looks good to me at 200, but I didnt try anything between 120 and 200.:D

120 looked better than 85... I could see the tips of my fingers without a weapon in hand at 120, but at 85 was way over zoomed... been playing at 200 and it's good at this fov @ 5760x1080..

game is getting better as I play... wasn't thrilled with interval 1 but 2 was a little better and 3 seems even better. The textures are blurry at times as noted due to consolitis.. *sigh* but all in all a better experience than DNF. :p

1) DRM - what exactly does the retail game use?
2) Saving - doe it have real saving or checkpoints (this will probably be the deal breaker)
3) Is there LAN multiplayer?

1) Activates via Steam, or purchased on Steam.
2) No manual saving, checkpoints only
3)There is multiplayer but each person would have to hook up via Steam, I would suppose.

Thanks for your reply, although it's a little disappointing.

I might buy this game one day, but not now at full price.

the checkpoints don't work out 100% of the time, but they are good enough. I hate hellhounds though.

This game doesn't have terrible save points, although I certainly agree with you; on the PC a manual save should be a non-issue.

The game that gave me fits in this regard was Ghost Recon 2, a fabulous game and graphically well done AND designed from the ground up to be different that the XBox 360 version, but still no manual save. There was one part that was near impossible, and you had to keep repeating the same things over and over to get one crack at the final enemy......just maddening.

the save checkpoint only option bugs me more in FEAR3 than it did with #2 for some reason.. there were parts I had to play over and over to get to the part I was having issues with.. that gets tedious fast :p

I'm going to install and play the first game and work my way through i think, i've yet to play any of them!!

I've always liked the FEAR series but tend to find myself forgetting to finish any of the games or expansions.

I don't know if it is my ADD with games or a lack of something from the game itself. In either case, I'm sure I'll be checking this out.

Skakruk - The first F.E.A.R. on pc is one of my favorite fps of all time. I'm on the third interval of F.3.A.R. right now, and sadly, I have to say this is not a FEAR game anymore. It feels completely different and plays differently from the first one. Like others have said, this is really an all out military action first person shooter now, with trace semblances of the original in here. Compared to the first one, well, there simply is no comparison. On its own, it's an average fps. Also, I wasn't a fan of the consolized second one, and for me, the 2nd one and 3rd one are about the same. Granted, I haven't finished the 3rd one yet, but my feelings so far are that it's about on par with the 2nd one - both are sort of meh to me.

That's unfortunate. Like, you feel like the "scary" aspect has dissipated?

There really isn't anything scary anymore at all.
In fact the last interval is down-right stupid, like "oh well, we have to finish this somehow".

I see this somewhat like the Extraction Point expansion.....pretty much a straight out military shooter.

Several levels were really, really good......but overall, the FEAR is gone.:p

Yup, agreed. The fear just isn't there and when it's there, you kind of know what to expect. Which levels were really good because I haven't experience any really good levels yet. ;) I'm on the third interval and the third interval is the closest it is to it being somewhat scary, though not really.

I don't necessarily equate "good' with "scary".
I'm basing my good on the level detail and how much fun I had progressing through it.

I liked the slum level.
I liked the grocery store level. The exploding guys were really fun to mess with.
I really had fun in the airport.

the rest were pretty generic, so they sort of blend together.:D

The last level was just plain dumb.

I agree. Scary doesn't mean it's good. For me, as I'm going through the game thus far, the fun factor is just ok. It's not great, it's not bad, it's just very average.

Yep that's what this game is. I don't know how Hardocp can tout a game like this and then turn around and bash a game like Crysis 2. I don't get it. Both are good games as far as I'm concerned but I much more enjoy playing Crysis 2.

I like them both on their own merits just fine.

Wow, speaking of F.E.A.R the original, there's a lot to be learned from extracting it's voice package and listening to everything in there. Most interesting is dialogue from an alternate ending (Alice Wade is not eaten, I think Fettel kills Harlan), and what sounds like an alternate meet the team/briefing/tutorial level (CoD 4 style or something).

Sounds cool. I never knew about that stuff.

The first FEAR was great. I played the FEAR 2 demo and I was finished with it. Why do these developers mess with a formula that works? Why do they fuck-up these sequels?

Ok, I'm on Interval 4 now. Interval 3 is the only cool level so far. The rest of the levels are very meh and forgettable. Game definitely would have been more satisfying if all the levels were like Interval 3. Will proceed and see what the rest of the game is like, but so far, only the third interval has impressed me thus far.

Ugh, spoiler much?

because its not the same producers that made the games.. the original fear was produced by Vivendi Universal and developed by Monolith Productions where as FEAR 2 and 3 are produced by Warner Brothers with FEAR 2 being developed by Monolith Productions and FEAR 3 is developed by Day 1 Studios(which are the ones that developed the console version of the original FEAR). the games also never had the same designer(s) through out the entire series so obviously idea's and concepts change with every new person that design's the game.
