Ok, so I have my computer shipping from AW (I know I know, its overpriced etc, I built my own pc last time and I thought I would give AW a shot since I got it for 1850 with a 5970 + 6b + i7920 + 875w psu + 1tb Raid 0 + XFI Titanium). Close to what I would have paid had I built it.

I am trying to prepare for eyefinity. But there is alot of conflicting info on the web.

Ideally for my budget I would like three of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009203&cm_re=acer_24-_-24-009-203-_-Product

Now they don't have display port, so I assume with my 5970 I will need a mini dp -> dvi.

I have heard some say if its 1920 x 1080 you do not need an active, and some say you need an active converter no matter what.

Anyone know the facts? Also can anyone recommend me a good converter as it seems people have been having loads of trouble with the Apple one.

Thanks! :D

I have read that even the active Apple adapter is not compatible. The apple mini dp passive adapter will most certainly not work.
Accept the fact that you will have to spend $100 on an active adapter.

Passive adapters do not work. I even tried the dp->svga adapter with no luck. Monoprice won't publish my review of that product (part 5135) either. Many folks successfully used the DP->svga adapter.

For the cost of that acer, you can buy three of the NEC 23" e-IPS panels which have DisplayPort built in.

Buy a monitor with built in displayport or you will be sorry. There are nothing but problems wtih the active displayport adapter (an active one is required per ATI but some people have gotten a passive one to work). Of course you can go over to the Wide Screen Gaming Forum and see a topic there that is 30+ pages long with people complaining about their monitors flickering with the displayport adapter and no solution in sight because no one seems to know the cause...

Have fun with that. Or just get the proper monitor and have fun with it.

You can always wait for the new ATI card with 6 mini displayport outputs on it. Its going to come with 6 mini displayport-->displayport cables in the box.

I am using it for gaming. Is there a 23 in NEC IPS that has low input lag and no ghosting? If so where cause I would love to buy it.

As far the mini to regular I didn't think about that =/.

What cable would I need if I just wanted to hook my mini into a regular...

I've read a lot of posts here and like "shawnoen" says I plan to go with monitor with displayport because of seeing tons of issues people have with adapter. They are not cheap and it will cost more than $100 premium compare to an active adapter.

I don't believe there is a $100 premium. Actually, if you're looking for a good quality panel, the NEC ea231wmi has native displayport and it's <$350. It really is the only viable option for a decent screen with native displayport. Since you are planning on eyefinity, I would strongly suggest sticking with IPS or PVA panels. I had one TN panel hooked up but have since ordered IPS replacements for it. The color shift is unbearable.

I decided that 3 of the ea231wmi's were quite expensive and chose the Dell 2209wa and an active adapter.

how is the input lag or ghosting on the nec? The primary use of all this will be gaming.

I'd check out the dell outlet for good prices on monitors with display port.

+1 for getting screens with displayport. far less headaches. besides if youre going to be investing in eyefinity my suggestion is not to skimp out on the screens. buy the nec or dell monitors with displayport and you'll be happy. youre getting a good system with a bigass video card. make use of it.the nec have good reviews online. they would have been my 1st choice for 23" if i had not gone the 24" route.

Check the Dell P2210H. Its only $229 and has displayport. Or the P2310H. Its normally $249 but is on sale right now from Dell for the same price.

They are TN panels but for gaming they are perfect, especially for Eyefinity in landscape mode.

I bought 2 U2410s but they are $499 when on sale. Two of them now and I'll get a 3rd and do either Eyefinity or Nvidia Vision once the details on that are released and I can compare it to Eyefinity (once thats updated as well).
