Eyefinity Requirements?

Tried running Eyefinity with 2 monitors and it did not work. I am assuming that I do not meet the requirements for it yet but I am not 100% sure. What are the Requirements for Eyefinity?
 
You can do it with two monitors. The only requirement is that the monitors need to be the same resolution.
 
I have 2 monitors (different sizes but don't think that matters) and it doesn't appear to be working for me. My PC consist of 2 6970's. On the top card I have 1 Monitor connected through DVI port and on the 2nd card I have the 2nd Monitor connected through HDMI. In this setup I can get both monitors to work in a non Eyefinity mode having 1 monitor as a extension to the other. There is no option in AMD Catalyst Control Center to adjust the Eyefinity setup.

Now when I change my connections of the monitors to be on 1 card only (1Monitor HDMI in slot 1 and 1 DVI in slot 2/ 1 Monitor HDMI in slot 1 and 1 Monitor in DVI in slot 1 ) I get the Eyefinity option but when I enable it one monitor goes instantly to sleep and it does not work. Checking Display properties in windows 7 and checking the Detect Display property in AMD Catalyst Control Center both show that the monitor that is asleep is disabled and I have no option to enable it. My only option is to replace the monitor so that the one that is asleep can be used and the one that was working falls asleep. My Eyefinity options in AMD CCC gives me a warning message of my display settings being recently changed and I cannot save nor discard these settings.

What am I doing wrong here?

Off Topic: I have a few Mini Display Port Adapters that came with video cards (5870, 6970's) one is a Mini DP to DVI connection, the other I am not sure what connection type it is. I thought it was HDMI but it does not look like it will fit. would anyone know what connection type is the other DP Port?

(I will upload a picture later after I get home from work.)
 
Any combination of ports will work for 2 displays, but you said your monitors are different sizes. A different size is fine, but are they the same resolution. If the resolutions don't match you can't do multi-screen gaming w/o some 3rd party tool.
 
what could be the reason for making it fall asleep?

Also the reason for me not being able to enable it in Windows 7 Display settings or being detected in AMD CCC?
 
1 -- Monitors must be same resolution
2 -- Any combination of ports for 2 are allowed
3 -- If you're going for a 3 monitor setup, make sure one of your monitors has DP input and you're using a quality mini-DP to DP adapter to cut down on the headaches.

Personally, the one item you're looking at most on any system is the monitor so you should put your money into great displays.

I invested in (3) Dells. (2) U2410s and a 2408FPW (internally, they're the same so I could use Bezel Compensation) and I don't, for a minute, regret spending the money.

Do you have 2 cards and one monitor plugged into each one? If so thats you're problem, all the monitors need to be connected to same card.

This answers my off topic question. It didn't even occur to me that it would be a DP port. :eek:

I do plan on getting a 3rd monitor in another 2 weeks.

All monitors have to be connected to the primary card. You can't connect one display to one card and the other to the second card. All of them need to be connected to the top card.

For eyefinity to work they have to be connected to the primary card. Connect the 2nd display while to the card while the computer is on and see if that helps.
 
Its also possible that when you go into eyefinity mode, the card is disabling the HDMI port or the DVI port your using as it can only support 2 connections per card in the DVI/HDMI ports and a 3rd/4th monitor have to be run from the DP ports...something different to try if you have another DVI cable.

You can only run two monitors off VGA/DVI/HDMI in a single GPU card. For the third and more, you need to use DisplayPort.
 
just got home from work and have connected Both Monitors to the Main Card. One Monitor is connected via HDMI on top slot, the other Monitor connected via DVI through the bottom slot. Here is what I get:

1 Monitor is always asleep disabled. AMD CCC will not detect it. In Windows 7 The only option I have is switching between the monitors disabling one and enabling the other.
 
forgot to mention the AMD CCC message I get does not give me the option to discard or apply the settings that have been changed. I even restarted and the message is still there.

I ran my setup at 1440x900 x3. I just set the 1680x1050 screen to 1440x900.
It worked fine and for the games I played.
 
well, I have managed to get the 2 Monitors running with one connected to HDMI and the other connected through a Mini DP-DVI Adapter but as I am planning to get 3 Monitors anyways I still need to get this figured out. :(
 
Thus far in the evolution of Eyefinity, you will need to have one of three monitors powered by the Display Port output. It's just the way the GPU outputs work.

Now you should be able to get two monitors working on any combination of outputs....I can't explain why one is disabled in the CCC.

As others have said the Primary card drives the monitors, so your monitors need to be plugged into your primary GPU.

You will be disappointed in gaming on two monitors, the action is centered right smack in the middle of the bezels at the center of the adjacent monitors and you'll have a limited field of vision.

You need three monitors. Make sure your third monitor has a DP input.

I use three Dell U2410s I bought off eBay for a very reasonable price.
