Ok am I reading this wrong or do I HAVE to have a monitor that supports Display Port in order to have 3 monitors hooked up to my two crossfire 6850's?

I have several monitors that have hdmi and dvi but none with Display Port to clarify.

Just so we're clear, there are two kinds of DisplayPort adapters. Active and Passive. Active adapters are typically more expensive, ranging from $80 - $100. Passive adapters an be found for as little as $20. Here's the difference:

Active adapters have a USB plug for power. They are used for high resolutions, Usually 2560x1600.

Passive adapters are straight pass-through adapters. They work for all resolutions up to 1920x1080, though I used one of these with a Samsung 2343 BWX-1, at a native resolution of 2048x1152. It would flicker on occasion, but a firmware update fixed that.

Hmmmm... Or maybe not solve my problem. So if I wanted to do two 19" monitors 1600x1200 alongside my 29" 1920x1080 then would I have to get the active one?

You are forgetting the thrid option - Active Displayport to Single-Link DVI cables that run in the $30 range here. They are good adaptors if you don't need to go over 1920x1200 or use 120hz monitor (they work at 60hz with these monitors).

These were released as an alternative to the $80-100 Active Displayport to Dual-Link DVI adaptors that were available at Eyefinity's infancy.

You're will be fine with the $30 active single-link DVI adaptor that myself and hajalie24 posted a link to. My 6950 xfire setup is using two of the DVI's connectors and one of the displayport connectors /w those adaptors. The three monitors I'm using are 1920x1080 each.

Awesome, thanks for the info and the links!

Is there a drop in quality or resolution or anything that you notice going through the adaptor? I am trying to decide to use it on my main display or one of the left/right secondary displays.

So best setup from left to right is 19" 1600x1200 connected by DVI, the 27" connected through the Active Single-Link DVI DisplayPort Connector, and 19" 1600x1200 connected by DVI

I didn't notice any kind of degradation in display quality when using one of these adapters. As for order of connections, I did the exact same thing.

DVI - DisplayPort - DVI
