I did a search but cannot find a similar question. Is it possible to do eyefinity with a 28" + 30" + 28" monitor setup?. I understand that they have to be the same resolution but if the 2 28's and the 3008 can all do 1920 x 1200 wouldnt that work?

Thanks

Hmmm...thanks Chameleoki. Sucks cause right now I have a 30", a 28", a 22", a 20" and a 24". All these monitors and I cant do eyefinity :(

I can't live w/out my 30

so I run eyefinity w/ my 3x20's and run the 30 for FPS's

all the monitors has to be the same type not just size (unless they changed that rule for Eyefinity)

No they don't - pretty sure that's never been a rule either.

That rule is for 3d vision surround, same type/screen/resolution X3.

You can use whatever size combination you want, but your resolution will be bound to the lowest maximum value of the three panels.

For example, the 2x28" is 1920x1200 and the 30" is 2560x1600, then your maximum EyeFinity resolution would be 3x1920x1200 depending on your orientation.

Which effectively means that Eyefinity can't do mixed/matched monitor surround sufficiently.

What do you mean? If EyeFinity can support 3 odd sized resolutions, think what would happen to your game ...

For example, 3x panels with 1280x1024 + 1680x1050 + 1024x768 ... the game will either have stuff cropped or completed messed up alignment.

For any surround solution to work it would only make sense to me to have 3 identical resolutions. Is Nvidia's solution better?

I ran 28x30x28 monitors in Eyefinity for a while (HannsG 28 x HP LP3056 x HannsG 28). Set up was no problem, same as any other Eyefinity set up, but you need to run all monitors at the same resolution -- 1920x1200 in my case.

I, however, wasn't happy with this setup and moved to three smaller monitors for a couple reasons:

  1. The 30" looked like crap running at a non-native resolution
  2. The viewing angles on the HannsG were particularly bad and exasterbated on such large monitors.
  3. The difference in display quality (dpi, color accuracy) between the 28"s and 30" was annoyingly noticable, even after hours of calibration to make them look the same
All in all, running a multi-monitor set up is better experienced on three of the same monitors. That said, it would be sweet to be able to run different resolution monitors if the vertical size and display panel of the monitors are similar. Would be great to run a 30" 2560x1600 widescreen surrounded by two 22" 1600x1200 4:3 monitors

Yeah, that would be nice to use the 30" as the main screen and 2 side screens with a lower res as these are more for peripheral vision anyways. I guess im gonna have to do what you did and get 3 identical monitors.

Gonna sell my 28" and the other smaller sizes and get 2 more 24's I think. Want to get 3 monitors running at 1920 x 1200 res.
Ordered my active dvi/dp adapter so im 1 step closer.

Wanted to be ready for MOH and Black Ops...not sure if that'll happen.

Thanks for the replies guys.

yeah its lowest common denominator, so you'd need to go 1920x1200 on your 30", the only real downside to that is downscaling doesn't always look fantastic, on the upside it will be easier to power, remember 2560x1600 is ~4.1 million pixels where as 1920x1200 is only ~2.3Mpix

You last scenario considering if you had a 2560x1600 with 2x 1600x1200 panel's, I could only see this working if the two side panels were in Portrait mode so you would have a 4960x1600 resolution workspace.

Your problems with non-native resolutions and bad viewing angles is something you'll have to live with with non-identical panels. You will need higher quality panels for viewing angle especially for Portrait setups, but this isn't the fault of EyeFinity.

Also having different resolutions for each panel and forcing EyeFinity would most likely cause a lot of problems with games, as even now not all games support huge resolutions since they were never designed to consider EyeFinity/SurroundView.
