Can anyone running a 3x1 eyefinity display group with the screens in portrait orientation confirm that Windows Media Center will open and span across all the displays when maximize, in Windows Vista?
 
It will not span across the 3 monitors in portrait. You will need to switch your monitors back to landscape. Or if you have another graphics card in your computer hook up another monitor to it in landscape mode.

Well yes it should work. Windows will see the monitor as a single huge resolution display and will treat it as such. The bezels will be a problem however.
 
dcds1- Why do you think it will not span across the eyefinity group in portrait? Have you verified this?

siliconnerd-Yeah, thats the problem, Media Center does portrait mode just fine under 7, but I'm currently running Vista... Trying to display my TV on my LCD's... Vista does not like portrait mode for Media Center. So I was thinking an Eyefinity display group, which overall looks landscape in ratio, would be okay, but I kinda want to know before I jump!

rUmX-It Should! yes. I'm just looking to see if anyone has tried it. Been doing too many projects that 'should' work this week that haven't. Thanks. Wouldn't the Bezel correction in Eyefinity take care of that problem? Thanks.

Bezel correction will probably make it worse since things will then be "covered" by the bezels.

If it works in Windows 7, it's probably going to be the exact same for Vista. I don't think Media Center was overhauled for Win7 or anything - it's more or less the same thing.
 
kllrnohj- Vista / Windows 7 Media Center treat Portrait displays differently. Media Center will instantly close in Vista if it is moved even partially onto a portrait display, citing its unable to run in portrait mode. For windows 7 it works just fine. I Will not be upgrading this machine to Windows 7 right away, but want to view TV etc across all the screens.

of all the people on here with Eyefinity displays, you'd think someone would have tried this...

Everyone just jumped the Windows Vista ship months ago. :p
 
The reason I know this is because on my gaming computer I am running Vista. I have to run 4 monitors so I can run Window Media Center. I have 3 HP LP2065 in portrait for gaming. Then I have a LP2065 hooked to the 790GX DVI output in landscape mode so I can run media center. It also allows me to play games that only run on monitors in landscape mode. I just make the display that is connected to the 790gx as primary when I need landscape mode.

Now if you switch to windows 7 you can run media center across 3 displays in portrait. The only thing is you have to run in window mode.
 
dcds1- I think you missed the Eyefinity display group part... I don't see any mention of that in your reasoning. Running an Eyefinity display group, Vista "should" see the display as one single landscape display, due to the ratio of the height and width, instead of the individual portrait displays. BUT I do not have confirmation on this yet, hence the question.

siliconnerd- ain't that the truth. Unfortunately I am unable to jump ship yet.
 
Just upgrade to Windows 7 if it doesn't work - why isn't that an option?

Just backup the files/documents that you need saved onto a massive storage drive.
Then do a fresh win7 install.
And what the wife don't know won't hurt her.
I doubt she'll be able to tell the difference.
