Eyefinity or two cards + non-DP displays?

I'm not sure where to go with this. I am looking to put together a tri-screen desktop for a friend's work, but I'm wary of all the problems I see people having with DP causing sleep issues, freeze issues, not booting properly, etc.

Is this still a problem? Is there a certain type of setup that is causing these DP issues, or a certain guaranteed set of displays that are definitely not having any sort of problems? Will a two-card 3 non-dp monitor solution be more viable and stable without having to deal with the problems I've seen with DP?

Basically I don't want to have to troubleshoot this thing every time the monitors don't start or it won't come out of sleep or it fails boot. Unplugging the monitors every time it gets booted is not an option.

thanks

The problems arise when you start using adapters, because they have a high defective rate. Newegg shows 10%, which obviously doesn't mean 10% fail, but that's way higher than the reported defective rate of any decent product sold there.

So basically, buy two adapters and keep one for backup, if you're not able to buy a monitor with DP in the first place.

If I purchase at least 1 DP monitor and use the other two on DVI/HDMI this issue will be a non-issue?

better use a single card
sli/crossfire still makes some games unplayable (heavy microstuttering)

the apple is a good displayport -> 120hz dl-dvi adapter
only downside it costs 100 bucks

The intention wasn't to play games, just have tri-monitor support. Was going to use a couple of cheap as hell cards to do it, but would rather just go a single card solution if possible.

There are workstation cards that can output 3 or more DVI if you really are that concerned. But considering the price premium, it most likely will not be worth it.

Sounds like a job for the 5770 "Eyefinity 5" edition. Should be cheap, and he can add another 2 monitors for work if needed later.

you could buy a sapphire flex graphics card
it has 2 dvi, 1 hdmi, 1 dp that can all be used at the same time
its also bundled with a hdmi -> dvi adapter
these adapters are more reliable and very cheap (only single link though)

otherwise i'd just buy a second graphics card
there are no problems if you're not gaming
and they're almost cheaper than a good dp -> dvi adapter
