Eyefinity and Crossfire questions

I had Eyefinity way back during it's early day with a 5870 and while I had a few issues with how it worked (namely being very sensitive to fish-eye) I'm thinking of giving it another shot, but I have a couple questions. Back when I was using Eyefinity Crossfire support was lacking, to put it nicely, but it didn't matter too much since I wasn't pushing the 5870 too hard due to running lower res monitors (I think they were 1680x1050) but now I want to get three 1080p monitors and the thought of using Crossfire occurred to me. To keep from rambling further I'll just post my questions:

1. How well does Crossfire work with Eyefinity these days?

2. Assuming the answer to 1 is "it works great" would two 6870s be good enough for three 1920x1080 monitors or would it be better to get a single 6970 or even two 6950s if I can afford the added cost?

3. How is game support these days?

Thank you in advance.

Crossfire is fine for eyefinity.

I would recommend reference 6950s unlock to 6970s for best bang for performance especially with the 2gvram.

Usually new games come out with sli/crossfire profiles quite soon after release if not at release. Older games probably do not support crossfire and may hinder your performance if not disabled.

I agree with post 2. I will however add that if your sensitive to fish eye as I am, you should consider running the monitors in portrait eyefinity and remove the bezels to have the thinnest gaps possible between the 3 panels. I think you'll find that setup much more enjoyable in lieu of our common sensitivity.

Outside of scouring the trade section or Ebay it seems pretty much impossible to find reference 6950s anymore. The only card I can seem to find that is half-way reliable is the Sapphire Toxic 6950.

I have found that usually if a game supports crossfire then it supports crossfire eyefinity.

Yah I believe some newer custom pcb's like the msi twin frozr III stil lhave the bios switch and can be unlocked still.

From reviews on Newegg (yeah yeah not the most reliable place in the world for reviews these days) it seems pretty hit or miss. I'll keep an eye on it though if it ever gets in stock. Amazon has it in stock but for an absolutely insane price.
