Eyefinity and 6990+6970

So I just upgraded my mobo and cpu to MSI x79A-GD65 (8D) and i7 3930k...

When I booted my 3 monitor setup with my old AMD Phenom II 965 and 6990 there were no problems.


When I booted and restarted with my new mobo and cpu everything loads really slow and I get screen tearing flickering when not in games? I also tried adding a 3rd 6970 and the problems were still there? Once when I booted with the 3rd 6970 the pc started to power up then just lost power.?

with one monitor and just the 6990 everything runs fine. BF3 on Ultra is 70+FPS

Any thoughts?

I have a 1100W abs PSU... I saw a review that said it really acts like a 900W... so I'm not sure if this would be the problem?
 
Hmm. Definitely sounds like a power issue to me. You may also have a driver problem.

Here's the deal. According to Guru3D, the 6990 pulls around 370 watts. A 6970 pulls around 210 watts. Assuming Intel's TDP of 130 watts for the 3930k is correct, you're pulling a peak of about 710w before HDD's, fans, USB devices and other things. If it's true that the unit can only supply 900w, you very well might have a power shortage.

I'm no expert and it could be a variety of things, but I'd bet it's a shortage of power. Since it runs fine with just the 6990, I think I'm right.
 
So I did a clean Install of Win... and running BF3 in eyefinity is very smooth on High/Ultra settings.

Skyrim is terrible though.

I just put a 6990 into my system for a 6990+6970 total now and I had to reinstall windows to get everything to work right too. But now BF3 runs like a dream @ 5760X1080p and I can crank up the graphics to ultra and have decent frames now. Before with 2 6970's I had to turn a few things down....
