i have 2 6870 cards in crossfire and im reading online and i hear that i do and dont need an active displayport adapter. I getting 3 24" monitors with dvi and vga ports(no hdmi). What if anything do i need to set this up ? and if i need an adapter, whats the cheapest one to buy ?thanks for the help
 
You need an active adapter to run 3 displays off one card, the card can drive two DVI, and the Display port active adapter runs the third.

Link for the ATI certified adapter under $30, these work for 1920x1200, monitors using higher resolution need dual link.

In crossfire you might be able to run two off one card and the third off the other as nVidia does but I am not sure.
 
I can't recall at the moment if the 6870's have mini dp, but if yes, then yes that adapter will work. If not, just pick up the one isom linked above.
