Eyefinity 3 x 30" Options

So I was able to pick up 3 Dell 3007's for very good prices, and I want to put them all into use. Currently I have a i7 875k on the 1156 chipset So I Crossfire isn't going to be a good option iirc. Something about the bus not able to do independent x16 on the PCI-e bus.

So single cards
Probably the 6970, I would have to use the Dual-Link DVI and the two Mini Display-port. The Mini-Display ports are going to need the Active adapters which at like 60-100$ a pop. Wish I could find one with two Dual-Link DVI.

I could go with the older 5870, which would be a more budget option, not only because its cheaper but also because from what I am seeing it has 2 x Dual-Link DVI, so I would only need one adapter for the Dell 3007's.

Anyone have any other opinions? Or other options. Currently I have a 4870 in my system which is a hold over from my pre-i7 system. I was going to try and wait it out till the new 7000 series release but I really want to try these bad boys out in Eyefinity.

7680x1600 is a monstrous resolution. You will never be happy with a single card at that resolution, even if it is a 6990 which is dual gpu on one card.

Don't go with the 5870, they have serious eyefinity limitations.

The difference between x8 and x16 is negligible, so you can crossfire. If I were you I'd want either 2 x 6990 or 6990 + 6970 tri fire. Ideally if I were you I would wait for the new AMD lineup to come out.

I have 3 5870s in trifire and I'm not even happy with 5760x1200 performance.

In your case I wouldn't consider anything less than a 6990 since you get xfire on a single card which will work fine in your mobo. Performance still wont be great tho.

If you are running 3x30 then get a new mobo to support sli.

I ran 2x6970s and it was great but I ran into "sleep" issues w. the mini display adapters port/ adapters

I've been running surround for a while now and it has been less of a headache n love my 3x30

You're also running 3 $600 graphics cards. That could possible explain why your games run well 3*30 .

I dont think a pair of sli 570s is going to deliver great 7680x1600 performance either. (although maybe less buggy)

Are you going to run games at this resolution? You OP says nothing about gaming.

3x 30 inch for gaming needs either 2 or 3 3gb GTX 580s depending on the settings you want in games. You can even go 4x 3gb gtx 580s

OR

Tri fire or quadfire in the following ways

Trifire
6990 + 6970
6970 x 3
Sapphire 6950 Toxic x3

Quadfire
6990 + 6990
6990 + 6970x2
6990 + 6950 Toxic x2

If your not gaming then don't bother spending so much money and consider getting 1 5870 or 5850 and call it a day.

I'm using 3X30'' LCD in Eyefinity with a Quad-Fire set-up: 6990+6970+6970, and everything is working fine. I'm using the 3 Mini-DP connection on the 6990.

You don't need to go Nvidia to do this. My AMD Quad-Fire set-up is working perfectly, even for gaming.

I am not doing much right now, but am going to be heavy into D3 when it releases, and then GW2 or TOR. Not into to much FPS. and for Starcraft I am not sure if 3x30 is possible or would even really look quite right.

I kind of fell into the monitors when I was looking for a single 30" 3 of them for 1300$ was just to good to pass up. So now I am trying to figure out how to best support them.

I may just grab something to hold me over, and then early next year, after AMD 7000 series has released I will go with a new updated build.

My current Rig was built while I was on 1920 x 1200, and it still supports 2560 x 1600 on moderately high settings for what i do now.

The 3007WFP monitors have no scalers remember, you absolutely have to have the eyefinity setup perfect, or you'll encounter quite considerable problems. I'd try for maybe a pair of HD7970s when they come out. 7680x1600 (or 4800x2560) is a vast number of pixels to render in any game. Even a pair of upcoming HD7970s is unlikely to make more than an average of around 45fps at that setting with max detail, with a minimum of more like 40.

Is Nvidia's multi monitor solution up to spec with eyefinity? I hadn't looked into it that much, but what I have read says that it isn't really as hardy.

Also about not having scalers in the 3007 that is true but though a very long winded story that I am not going into, I have a 3008 that has a broken LCD Panel. Anyone think that I could take the LCD Panel from one of the 3007's and replace the broken on in the 3008? Isn't the scaling and everything done in the circuitry?

That just looks awesome, but if your spending 3k+ on those nice Dell monitor... obviously the rig needs to equal the cost your talking alot of pixel resolution there... a single 6990 would be the bare minimum for running those monitors you def need dual GPU solution, if your planning on keeping your i7 875k + mobo

Depends. The 3008WFP and 3007WFP-HC are meant to have the same panel, but the earlier 3007WFP's was different.
