I recently bought a D-link DGS-2208 8-port gigabit switch to help improve network transfers. While it was good from a gigabit-capable computer to another gigabit-capable computer, when I transferred stuff from my gigabit Vista computer to my bros non-gigabit computer, the speed is extremely slow (from a few bytes to less then 1mb/sec) and it clogs up/stops any connection between every single computer that is attached to the switch while transferring.

I researched a bit into the problem and it said that flow control might be the problem. Since the switch is unmanaged, I turned off flow control, as well as IPv6, QoS and disabled jumbo frames from the driver properties but it didnt help at all. All other gigabit-capable computers run XP and Vista but I am not sure why it is extremely slow even if there is flow control.

I'd look at faulty hardware. Maybe a bad cable or NIC on your' brothers computer causing some interference with everything.
