I made the decision to switch to SLI by purchasing another BFG 7800GTX to complement the one I bought last summer. I went through the usual SLI setup, swap the pins on the mobo,put both cards in, SLI bridge. When I went to boot, windows would load up and leave me at a black screen, forcing me to hard restart. I tried the usuals, swaping the card, etc. Then on a random reboot, all of a sudden, it froze up in artifacts after posting was complete. Keep in mind, it only artifacts and freezes at the same exact place every reboot, SLI mode and single card. I am clueless as to whats going on, and would take any help by this point. Thanks.

Did you try moving the dvi cable to a different output on the cards ?
 
No, but I don't see how that would change anything, considering it works fine up untill then. I will try it and let you know how that goes.
 
I had the exact same issue when i first did sli with two ultras. I went to a different dvi output and for what ever reason .............bling, ! nervana
 
Oh and make sure your aux connector s to the cards are plugged in. And finally , i had an Antec True 550 that went to shit and caused issues like that when i had a 6800 GT I have used PC Power and Cooling ever since.
 
different DVI slot did nothing, after the artifacting this time, the monitor just goes off, as in green light turns yellow, and it stays like that even if i power off and on again. Do i have some dead parts?
 
First make sure you have placed the pins correctly. This could be caused by insufficient power, I would also try restoring the motherboard's default settings. If that did nothing I would try uninstalling and cleaning up any remaining traces of the drivers, then reinstalling them. Did you actually try to run the new card on it's own, to make sure it is functioning properly? If all failed and I knew the PSU wasn't causing it, I would format Windows and take it from there. Oh and one more thing, can you boot your computer from Safe Mode?
 
You know, that started happening with my 6600GT's in SLI in another Rig, they wouldn't produce and Image and the monitor would go off but would not say "No Signal" So the monitor knew the cards were there and connected. I don't remember how I get it working again, If I remember correctly I went into my case and made sure everything was seated tight, I don't know why. I didn't do anything software wise. Not that this helps or anything, but I've had the problem as well.

insufficient power isn't the problem I believe, and I can not get into safe mode, however I can get into the bios

I can not get into safe mode because the system gives me the artifacting/shutdown sequence before the Windows advanced options menu shows up.
 
ok, progress was made, default mobo settings now bring me back to where i was originally, I can now boot in safe mode.

Good, now after uninstalling the the drivers completely (leave no traces) install them again in safe mode so both gpus can be recognized.
 
ok then, I have to go to a friends house to burn the drivers onto a CD in order to run em on the comp. No internet in safe mode. Ill let you know how it goes when its done. Thanks a lot man, you are of great help

Glad I could help, but you don't have to leave your home to get the job done. You could use one gpu to boot to windows download the driver, extract the files and then after installing both gpus and going to safe-mode install the extracted driver.
 
There is a option to boot up safemode with networking enabled, from there you could obtain the drivers on your own without having to go to a friends house, but whatever you think is easiest, you've probably already left by now anyway!
