This has REALLY got me stumped. I tried everything in my playbook, and I can't seem to figure it out.

My dad has an Asus IC7 motherboard with a BFG 6800NU video card. This is hooked up to a Viewsonic VX922 monitor via DVI.

Lately, he started getting random lockups and video corruption. I thought it was something else, so I ran the computer through the usual battery of stress/stability tests, and each component came through with flying colors (CPU, video, RAM, etc.). I stressed with ATI Tool, Prime 95, Orthos, etc. No problem with any component. So I tried different driver variants, but this didn't make a difference. Rig is clean of viruses/malware/spyware.

It came to the point that the screen would get no video at all, not even at BIOS/computer powerup. I started switching cables, and found that the screen would get no signal with the DVI connected, only with analog.

I took the screen to another rig to test the DVI output to see if it was toast. It works perfectly on another computer. So I tried different DVI cables. This has no effect.

Next, I switched to an old Ti4200 card in my dad's rig. Surprisingly enough, DVI output DOES NOT WORK either!!! Only analog!!!

I reinstalled the BFG 6800, and to test to see if the DVI port was working FOR SURE, I connected a DVI>Analog adapter, and connected up the analog cable. It worked fine!!!

So I'm stumped. No matter what I try, on his rig, DVI output does not work, regardless of what screen I try, what DVI cables I use, or what video card I try.

Cliffs:

1. Random lockups/video corruption.
2. Lose DVI video on rig. Analog only works.
3. Switch cables. No effect on DVI.
4. Switch screens. No effect on DVI.
5. Switch video cards. No effect on DVI.
6. Tried DVI>Analog converter. Works fine.
7. Moved back to DVI. DVI still doesn't work.
8. ...
9. No profit???

I don't know what to do next. By all accounts, DVI should be working.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

Does your dad's computer have phantom multi-monitor entries?

Have you tried deleting the monitor(s) from the control -> system -> device manager

and rebooting?

Yes, tried that. One of the first things I tried doing. No effect.
