i have a question about watercooling that is practically laughable but i had trouble finding any immediate answers on google

so..physically moving a watercooled system, say from home to school, does anything need to be done? does the water have to be emptied or can you just put the whole thing in the box and just be generally careful?

since i'm completely new to this, petra's tech kits are a good place to start, right? is it easy to change configuration and switch parts as i understand more about watercooling?

I would suggest draining the system unless you're VERY confident in the hose attachment. I'd also suggest looking at kits for examples and then buying stuff to better suit your needs. Looking at other people's setups and asking questions is a great way to figure out how you want to get yourself setup.

Watercooling systems are perfectly safe for transporting! However there are a few precautions you can take. One thing I do is remove my harddrives from the case. In the unlikely event that something were to spill I dont want to take the chance that liquid could seep in through the air hole (though I dont think it can). Before you leave also make sure that everything is secure and the hose clamps are tight.

When you arrive check the computer, look for any signs of leakage during transit. Then perform a leak test for at least a couple hours. Unplug all power from any components except the pump, and jump the PSU. If your system passes the leaktest you are fine...if not fix the leak and your set.

If something were to leak in transit nothing can be harmed. There needs to be electric current flowing through it for something bad to happen. Just clean and dry all components before restarting the system.

unless your going to your next lan party by horseback, i'd say it's fine.

:D :D :D

Um, if you're using hose clamps and anything but Arctic Silver 5 you'll be fine. No hose clamps will = leaking if you're not careful. Cured (burnt in, after 300hrs of use) AS5 will "break" and cause your temperatures to jump a fair bit if you're not careful with moving it around. The stuff basically aligns the silver molecules in such a way that sharp vibrations will change their orientation, reducing heat transfer effectiveness. I speak the truth as I've experienced a jump of 20'c in CPU temps just by plopping the case down hard on a floor (I slipped).
