Extremely Ghetto Cooling

I had this idea, but I'm scared to attempt it until I get approval from a few [H]'ers. Ok, it's finally getting cold here in south east-ish Texas, tonights low will be somewhere in the mid 25's, (Fahrenheit) and... well I want to overclock to the maxx by sticking it outside just long enough to get my maximum OC and time to take a screenshot in CPU-Z. I wanted to know, is there going to be any dangers in doing this (i.e. condensation, I live right on the coast and we have high humidity, and little foreign objects getting into my computer). Thank you guys, you're all great, and merry Christmas!

What if you put a hose on your intake that puule in air straight from outside? Put a filter on it and you might have an even permanent cooling solution.

I thought of that before, but it's kinda impractical because I have no real way of running a hose outside without permanent modification to my wall, and I can't cut a hole in the wall of a house I don't own. Also, this would only be usable during maybe one to two months out of the year (I live in Texas) and it gets like 80-100F outside during the rest of the year, which would make my temps go way up.

I guess what I really wanted to know guys, is will any condensation occur around my critical components? Thx.

I doubt it unless you leave it out there overnight or something.

I agree with above. Should be alright as long as you don't leave it out there or hang outside for 7 hours.

Well, all was successful, except the getting to 2.2GHz part lol. I took it outside, along with my monitor, keyboard, and mouse and fired it up. I also went ahead and overclocked my video card further, everything is on stock air and the video card's heatsink is stock except I put a higher RPM fan on it. On post it did show up as an Athlon XP 2800+ so I guess that's kind of a plus since I failed to reach my goal. Here's a simple chart for easier-ish understanding.

CPU: Athlon XP 2200+ (1.8GHz stock, 133MHz FSB, 1.6v vcore)
Overclocked: 2133MHz (158MHz FSB, 1.825v vcore)

GPU: Radeon 9500NP 128MB softmodded to Radeon 9700NP
Stock:
Core - 277MHz
Memory - 540MHz

Overclocked:
Core - 355MHz
Memory 610MHz

Outside (at 1.6ºC or 35ºF):
CPU Temps:

Idle - 16ºC or 60ºF
Load - 28ºC or 82ºF

Chipset Temps:

Idle - 11ºC or 52ºF
Load - 17ºC or 63ºF

Inside (at 23ºC or 73ºF):
CPU Temps:
Idle - 32ºC or 90ºF
Load - 46ºC or 115ºF

Chipset Temps:

Idle - 27ºC or 81ºF
Load - 30ºC or 86ºF

Colder air makes a huge difference in your temps of course, but due to my mutiplier being locked this was a pure FSB overclock and I took it to it's limit. I think it's a decent overclock for it being only the FSB. If my multi was unlocked I could've taken it way further (or at least I hope I could have.) Most importantly, I guess is that I did indeed have some fun in the newly aquired cold air I'm not used to... at all. While my hardware is old and outdated I think I may have just squeezed 3 more months out of it, while it's outside during winter at least lol. Hopefully that Mobile 2400+ will come my way soon, or maybe someone on the forums will cut me a good deal ;).

condensation happens when you pass the dew point of the air humidity. You don't condensate inside your house at a given temp.

You won't condensate outside your house at a given temp. (even though the air inside is more moist. The "hot" parts of your system don't condensate.

I live in northern WI and have used my computer outside for this exact purpose, except for me the air temp was -25 (-45 with the wind). You will not get any condensation when you put your computer outside. However when you place it back inside you will. As long as you leave it off until it warms up, you'll be fine. If you are really paranoid about it, before you place it back in the house, wrap a plastic bag around it and seal it with tape. The condensation will only go on the bag and once it warms up, there will be no condensation formation on the machine. I have left my laptop in my car several times in sub 0 temps. Just letting it sit in the bag until it warms up has worked fine for me.
