Extremely frustrating lag spikes

I've been playing The Old Republic since release, and I've honestly never had this problem before this week.

I'll get these extreme lag spikes where my ping will jump into the thousands, and this spike lasts for a couple of seconds and ceases. This process begins again after a couple of minutes. My download speeds are pretty consistent at at least 10 mb's, and I rarely ever completely lose connect

Some things I have tried:
-Running ToR as administrator and/or in XP service pack 3
-Turning off my Windows Firewall
-Resetting the Router/Modem more times than I can count

This is occurring on my brother's computer as well, so I'm pretty sure it's not my wireless USB (Which is relatively new at 4 months old). I have a Netgear Router/WirelessN USB setup.

If anything, I would like some damn proof that this is Comcast's shitty service so I can stop paying them top dollar for a shitty service.

ANY help would be appreciated, you guys have been amazing before :)

First, try used a wired connection and see if the problem still happens.

If it does, keep a "ping google.com -t" running and see if it's more than just SWTOR, and if there is any other pattern you can notice.

In addition to what Brak710 suggested, connect 1 computer via wired ethernet directly to the cable modem bypassing any routers or other networking equipment. If you still have problems it's most likely a problem with your ISP. You could also take your computer to another network to eliminate it as suspect.

It's possible that there is problem with the cable system in your residence or somewhere in your local neighborhood. If you are sure that it's a Comcast problem give them a call and they will send someone out to check things over.

Check your modem to see what kind of signals it's getting. High signals can lead to weird issues like randomly going out, etc.

Holy hell thanks for the suggestions guys, this will keep me pretty busy over the next couple of days.

Hopefully it's not my apartment's shitty wiring, it only started happening this week. But I'll give you guys a heads up on the results.

Again, thanks a ton for all of the above. Hopefully this helps some random Googler

Anyone running torrents on the network? They can open up so many connections that your router will lock up or stutter, even if the download or upload speed is only like 2Kbps. The solution is to limit how many connections your torrent program can make. It's usually a preference setting. For consumer routers, I set the maximum connections to 200.
