Hello guys.

Building a PC for the first time ever. I'm ready to screw the mobo (msi k8n neo2) onto my superflower case. However, the metal things where the screws are supposed to go in don't have any rubber washers to isolate the board. It just feels wrong screwing the board directly onto the metal protuberances. Also, the back of the mobo has a large metal plate to secure the heatsink's retention system, and I believe it will be in direct contact with the case's side panel. That can't be good.

What do I do?

use the metal stand offs to mount the motherboard, it should come with brass color stand offs to use

Yes, the case has those brass colored things. It's safe to mount the mobo on those then? What about the metal backplate I mentioned? It protrudes quite a bit from the back of the mobo. If it makes contact with the case's side panel, can something nasty happen?

Thx!

If you look at your board closely, you'll probably see that around most of those mounting holes, you'll find a metal ring. This is to ensure a common ground between the case, mb, and psu (if you've ever torn apart a psu, you'll see that they ground the psu casing also).

If you're worried about the hsf plate, cover the back of it with some electrical tape (black, red, blue...who cares...you won't be looking at it anyway). That will prevent any electrical contact.

Metal plate? You mean the boilerplate that goes over the inputs on the motherboard? Not sure what you mean, Just pop out the one that came with the case, pop in the new one and install away.

Don't worry about washers or rubber mounts. They have been creating special holes in motherboards that are properly grounded for many years no, so washers arn't needed anymore. Just screw them firmly DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THEM!

Mission accomplished! Formatting drive now!

Pushing that power button for the first time was one of the most terrifying experiences I've ever had :/.

hehe if my mobo ever needed that ground i would have been screwed, i painted the case insides and all and i think the last time i painted it i didnt bother removing the standoffs... brass isnt conductive to begin with... so other then maybe a ground for static...it does nothing

sounds almost like when I ran a script to update 3700 users in our Active Directory...
Nothing like sitting there while it's running in the background wondering if it's just deleting all the properties because instead of changing them

Good thing it worked.... :D
