For more money (alot more) Instead of using the prescott. You get More performance... Alot more compared to prescott... and alot less heat....

Would you think this processor is worth it?

I'm wondering if the new ones aren't prescott ones..I heard that they were going to make some based on prescott cores.

Anyhow, I don't really think it's worth it, unless you just got money to burn. I don't think performance is that much different with one. It'd be more benificial to put the money elsewhere in the PC unless you just had it to burn :)

you won't get that much more out of it and it'll just cost you a lot

If your looking for a performance leap you are pretty much going to have to go something with the A64 flavor. The Athlon64 just started shipping .90 chips. They are reported sweet overclockers; they are supposed to be one hell of a chip. The AThlon64 3400+ is coming down in price.

Well the LGA775 Extreme Edition chips are actually Prescott's and not Northwoods. So your going to have the same heat and the same performance as a regular Prescott with the exception of situations where the extra L3 cache will help.

Its worth it if you dont like money =)

Your better upgrading other parts of your system then buying an EE, consider cooling, video, and such.

The Extreme Editions are about twice the price for triple the cache basically. However, that doesn't equal double or triple the performance. More like 15% in certain scenarios only.

Basically unless you've just got tons of money lying around to buy the best of EVERYTHING on the market and your a 3D Mark whore the EE's aren't worth it.

The EE is pretty much not worth it, by definition. If you can spend the money anywhere else in the system, it would be better spent there.

Not true. The Extreme Edition processors have been, and are still 'Gallatin' Xeon MPs with the front side bus frequency raised to 200 MHz (800 effective). The Socket 775 EEs are still made under the 130 nm process, and still have a 512 kB L2 cache. They are just repackaged, just as the Socket 478 EEs are repackaged from the original Socket 604 configuration.

Not until intel releases there main 3.6/1200 proc with 2mb cache then I would say go that route rather then AMD64.
