I know, annoying help me thread, but I don't know where else to turn, I'm totally flustered trying to find this budget system. Please help.

Ok, what I've got to work with, my friend has 150 smackers, give or take NOT much give though ;-)

We currently have an AMD 1.2 Ghz, socket A, a burnt out Mobo, and about 256 mb of pc 133 ram.

We have a HD, CD rom, Floppy, Sound card, Monitor/accessories.

What we NEED to have happen is this.

A new CPU (1.5 Ghz amd something)
A new MoBo (agp slot, prefer onboard lan/sound, but not a big deal)
512 MB of ram
a Graphics card > Radeon 8500 or geforce 4 MX.

Now, thats the challenge, if you want to help it would be great.

If this is the system you have and that is the system you want and you only have $150...I would buy something else or just keep the money. Unless you are just surfing the net or something go ahead and get some refurbished parts from newegg.com And the cheapest CPU there already is a AthlonXP 2600 1.9ghz for $81.00

I'm talking budget, I found a new Duron 1.8Ghz processor.... 42 dollars
A Chaintech - 7VIL3 for 25 dollars...
Looking for some value ram (I know ish whatever) for about 40 bucks for 512 mb
and a GFX card for about 40 bucks...

I need suggestions on quality low price stuff, like whats the CHEAPEST yet nice GFX card?

Spend the 150$ on the lotary and hope you win. 150$ isn't even enough for a case nowadays.

Christ, I'm talking a budget computer, you guys are so used to building 2k rigs its insane, I've seen some nice 150 budgets out there.

This isn't for me, I don't really care for commical anecdotes of how 150 bucks isn't enough, because its not for an entire system, I don't even need a case, I just need 4 parts...

TRY ;-)

*edit my bad typing

I found a system for 170 bucks shipped...

Duron 1.8 Ghz $45.99
Asrock "K7VT4A PRO" VIA KT400A $38.99
Sapphire ATI RADEON 9250 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP $39
Rosewill 184-Pin 512MB DDR PC3200, 34.99

Total 158.97
Shipped 170.45

I think I dun good ;-)

Since you've accepted a GF4MX as a video card, I'd recommend an NF2IGP motherboard and a cheap processor- either a Duron, a really low-speed, AXP, or even a Sempr0n. It'll probably leave you $50ish for RAM, for which you can turn to the FS/FT section or hit up the [H]ot Deals forum.

ok, a little more info - does the 1.2 cpu work? is the ram ok?
Do you need a case?
$150 wont buy you a decent video card - so do not be surprised that your new system wont game.
do you need a power supply?
you might want to look in / post in the for sale trade and say you want to buy some cheapo system. but I doubt you'll get any low priced enough.

Ok here is my try - assumption is this - you need a cpu, board, video, and ram.
Since he wants low end graphics an onboard gpu may be ok.
so here is my figuring:
Asrock "K7VM3" VIA KM266 Pro Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU -RETAIL
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-157-046&depa=0
$40.75 +2.99
AMD Sempron 2400+ 1.667GHz, Socket A Processor - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-104-210&depa=0
$67+free
stick of 512mb pc3200 34.99+4.99 - 2-3 choices on brand
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=property&DEPA=0
that totals out to $150.72 shipped. - I'll look around and see if I can beat this.
Personally I dont like SiS, or S3 graphics but the onboard savage is ok - stable- no real gaming tho (think of performance on par with the original TNT card...)
IF he still wants the the equivalent of a MX4 graphics card - get this board-
BIOSTAR "M7NCG 400" nForce2 IGP Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU -RETAIL
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-138-234&depa=0
$62+2.50
but it raises the cost to $171.48 shipped
IF he wants the video card seperate I suggest these:
Asrock "K7VT4A PRO" VIA KT400A Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU -RETAIL
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-157-072&depa=0
$38.99+2.99
XFX nVIDIA GeForce MX4000 Video Card, 64MB DDR, TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "PVT18LQT" -RETAIL
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-150-055&depa=0
$33+2.99
However, the price would be: $184.95...

I say cut your losses.

Hit the For Sale forum, pick up a Socket A motherboard with onboard video, a little more PC133, and hold out until he has more money.
