extra storage or memory dilema

I'm building my next system and having a problem decising on extra ram (1+ gig) or another 36.7 gig raptor. the ram would come handy for morrowind oblivion but the extra HDD would be helpful for the fact of seek time for playing my games or accessing media on but then again I want a spare fast HDD for linux so I don't have both on the same HDD... (for partition reasons). help me decised please.

my new system will be
Asus A8n-sli
AMD athlon 3700 (san diego)
X1900XT by Asus

now I can do either corsair PC3200 XMS 1 gig or 2 gigs or western digital SATA 150 raptor 36.7 gigs. But if need be by you guys decision I can shave a gig off ram to get the 36.7 gig HDD or keep the 2 gigs of ram.
 
Only you can make that decision. Since you will be the one using the machine IMO it comes down to which will you be doing more of, gaming in windows or running linux.

There is a middle ground though... you could go with 1.5GB RAM and a drive other than a raptor assuming that board has no problems doing what you want it to do with 3 x 512's.
 
From what I've read (no first hand experience) is that the 36 gig raptor isn't that great. The 74 gig is way better. A good big SATA drive does comparably to a 36 gig raptor. I'd get 2 gigs of ram, and a 200+ gig sata drive.
 
Good choice. If you read the updated Buyer's Guide, you'll see the 36gb raptor is anti-recommended. Extra ram will help way more.
