My boss was trying to transfer something to my computer with the USB drive and it froze up, so after trying to end the process we just unplugged it and restarted my computer. Now neither of our computers recognize the drive, they keep popping up "found new hardware" wizards but dont recognize the drive. whats the deal?!

Sounds to me like it is toast. I had this happen with a Maxtor One Touch and I ended up taking out the drive and hooking it up manually to the IDE controller on my Mobo. It would then actually recognize the drive, but wouldn't format all the way.

what could have happened to it?? did we do somthing to break it or can it just fry itself like that?

all drives have a Mean Time Between Failure... IT seems portable drives die more often anyway...

i bought another enclosure and it works fine now. weird... i guess maybe since we unplugged it midtransfer the USB thing still thinks its sending? maybe thats why it doesnt work. I duno, thanks!
