Hows it going have no room for an internal sound card due to SLI, I am wondering if real tek HD on board will be good enough since I only use headphones for gaming in 3D and watching movies in 3D. Is it a good idea to buy an external sound card, is there one that is worth buying? Thanks a lot appreciate it.

Usually the soundboard card is 7.1 or 5.1. Depends. I would go into my sound settings and change the quality of the sound output. Usually the standard are DVD or Cd quality. Im sure you wont have a problem with that type of quality unless you care alot about the quality of the sound. anyways good luck.

I just worry that it will affect gaming and movies in 3d, but I think it should be fine right.

Thanks but there is zero room for an internal sound card due to two gtx 580s. Cant do much about it.

I use both external USB soundcard and internal mb Realtech HD sound and both SQ and performance in games on both is good on Win7. Thinking all mb audio is crap is old school thinking and is not true at all. Depends on quality of mb so YMMV. On my Asus it is good but on an older Asrock it sucks.

Really? Yeah ymmv indeed. Maybe to you it sounds that way. Do a poll and see though.

I have a new msi p67 and compared to my elderly xfi fatality it sounds like dried poodoo.

That is not to say that onboard has not improved at all b/c it has. However, from where it was, there is a long way to go still.

Why the hell you would spend $$ on two 580s and cheap out on the sound is lol tastic. I would buy a hdmi audio capable home theater receiver and run the hdmi audio out of a 580 if you can spare the out.

I have that too and use HDMI from a laptop to my Reciever for music over my house speakers. I have numerous amps, including tube headphone amp. I've done extensive testing and IMO most of you supposed audiophiles make up BS and the differences are actually miniscule so long as there are no EMI issues on the mb. On my computer my favorite option is optical out from mb to an external DAC but the OP may not want to spend that kind of money.
