Is there a product that supports 2 or more harddrives in an external enclosure that uses raid 0 or 1 or 0+1 on the external enclosure and uses a single firewire or usb2 cable to connect to comp?

i have 4x20gb WD 5400rpm and i want to make them faster or just use them as one bigger drive.

i've seen devices by promise that do scsi to ata but nothing like what you're looking for. wouldn't it just be easier to buy a drive 4bay drive cage for ide drives and a ide raid card?

Only stand alone RAID solutions I've seen are SCSI, but I'd be suprised if something like that wasn't available.

Of course, you could probably go software RAID. Get two generic firewire enclosures and pop your drives in them. Then set them up as dynamic discs in Windows (2x or XP) and RAID them via the OS.

Not the most elegant solution, but I'm fairly sure it'd work (someone back me up??). Of course, it would hit your CPU a bit too, and if you're trying to go external, my guess is that your computer is a bit too loaded as it is. :p

if i got a couple external firewire/usb hard drive enclosures would i be able to software raid them? could you guys post a link or 2 on how to do that?
