External PSU?

Does such a thing exist?

I'm envisioning a SFF case mod (H20) in which the PSU is located outside the case (away from altogether)... Something like a power brick for an printer, LCD monitor, etc.

I'm even thinking about moding a PSU to be external mysef... using a nice cable sleeving kit (such as from Frozen CPU). However, I'd like to spend my efforts on the case itself (custom acylic H20 cooled SFF, in the works).

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Blue

No they don't exist, at least not as a commercial product. First of all, there are several voltage and signal lines that you would have to extend(at least 10 different lines). Second of all, a couple of the lines are pretty high current(20 to 30 amps), so you would need pretty thick wires if you are going a few feet. Also, you would have a big, ugly box sitting outside your computer instead of hidden inside. It is doable but it is not as simple as a power brick for a printer.

You can do it, you'll have to take the internals of the PSU, and place them somewhere, For me, I would place the internals in plexiglass or something to make it see-through.

Actually you are wrong.

Shuttle for example makes their ST62K with an external powersupply.

Why are you planning to remove the powersupply btw? Several people have modded their shuttles with it internal.
