External Power Supply?

Has anyone created an external power supply? What I'm thinking of is an external enclosure/box which will hold a standard power supply. Within the enclosure there would be connections for the 12v connectors as well as the motherboard power connection etc. Those connections would go into a master cable which would plug into the back of a SFF case. Within the SFF case would be modular cable connections.

Has anybody done this type of thing yet? I would think it would save alot of space and also produce less heat since the power supply is outside of the case. This is pretty much the same thing that the XBox 360 does only you would be able to add whatever power supply you wanted.
