I know this isn't for an internal ATX power supply, but it seemed like the best fit category. :)

I am looking for an external power supply that will provide +5V and +12V molex connector to an internal-style CD-ROM drive. I would rather not rig up an AT powersupply either, as I need some portability (field support)

I know it sounds kinda funky, but I have a use for it.

thanks!

Id go look at Radio Shack or wade through cataloges (like Maplin) for a black box type AC to DC converter with the voltage and amps you need, then convert it to a 4 pin molex

You might find something, not sure
but Id definately trial this frankenstien monster on old junk CDROMs for awhile before attaching a good DVD-CDRW
it would still need to meet spec for voltage regulation if not efficency
and would likely be a linear regulated supply

Right now I just have an AT powersupply rigged-up. It's ugly, and not ideal for on-site support, but for my bench its ok.

Definately not cost effective to build one. This is for work and they probably don't want to pay me a few days just to put something together. Would be great if I could just buy something but all my searching came up empty handed. :(
