Question: I run a seperate mic from my headphones and am looking to redo my entire setup. My goals are to have a volume knob controlling my mic on my desktop. Ideally it would be small and have a mute button for instant muting. Any ideas? I'm not sure what type of gear would do this, a studio style mic and a preamp? A mixer? Thanks in advance.

Or failing that: A mute button to put onto the mic line going into my pc.

the only real proper way to do volume control would be with a mic pre amp... a mute button can be made from a simple relay...
