I had a question not really a case modding one but figuring that most case modders know quite a bit about the hardware available you would be able to answer this.

My computer desk has a lower portion where my keyboard sits on, and the top of my desk hangs over the keyboard slightly, So what i was thinking was putting a low powered light there with some sort of switch so that during the night i can game and see the keyboard without turning on any lights or squinting.

Im looking for suggestions on what sort of material to use for the lighting, i was thinking maybe those light strips you can get at home depot but my concern is they may be overly bright.

I was looking for something that would take a little less hardware, and could look like it was meant to be there, oh haha about the desk lamp. i want the light to be hidden.

lol. but i was being serious about the LED cluster under the overhang on your desk above the keyboard - a little bit of double-stick tape and you're set...

hi you could try what i have done and thats tape a flexible usb laptop light under there and used a male to female extension cable to provide power great thing is it just plugs straight in to a free usb port

Home Depot sells cabinet lights just for this purpose.

They're 2', 3', 4', 6, and 8' long, and about 3/4"X3/4" square. They plug right into the wall and have a switch on the cord. You can get them in brass, stainless, and brown. Possibly other colors as well.

I have thought about doin something like this when I build my next desk. I think it would actually be really easy to use ccfls. Just use a tester psu and you could have a switch panel for the ccfls. That way you could have different colors of the ccfls since they don't take up a lot of space. You could turn on the white ones for work. Then have another color to match the scheme of your computer and flip those on when you just want your work area to look badass.

A white and maybe a Red CCFL, running off of any 12v source of power (at least 700ma) will work fine. You could buy a molex PCI passthrough plate to allow an externally connected Molex connector, they're 4$ at jab-tech.com.
