External HDD just a question.

If I was to get an external HDD and plug it into my USB 2.0 drive. Would there be any differance between an internal?
 
Performance wise, the USB drive will be slower than an internal drive. Expect transfers of around 30-40MB/sec. If you can use FireWire, you should, as you will enjoy consistently higher transfer rates and lower CPU utilization.

USB 2.0 has limitations, but they don't affect external hard drives that much. It still takes a while to dump 200GB of data anywhere - go grab lunch or something in the mean time.
