external HDD help

So, i'm looking for a 320 - 500GB external USB HDD..

my question is... which companies are good at external HDDs..

western digital? who else?

should i go OEM?

i would go with a seagate hard drive and an antec mx-1 enclosure. The seagates have 5yr warranty and the antec mx-1 is supposed to be an excellent enclosure (has usb and esata)

i say use a western digital drive with the enclosure stated above, i have a couple of those myself and are great.

Also - I'lll throw this in. If you have a firewire (IEEE1394) port I would definitely consider finding and enclosure that will support that connection over USB. Not sure about external SATA though...

Well jcmuse has already recommended the Antec MX-1. I'd say also take a look at this one:

ChingChang convinced me to get those, I think he has 3 himself.

Desktop hard drives are 3.5 inch, so you'd want enclosures that hold a 3.5 inch drive.

i think i prefer active cooling. .the antec looks nice.. a bit pricey though
