External HDD Enclosure Cooling

The fan on my External HDD enclosure just started to bite the dust. Wondering if running the enclosure without the cooler is going to be seriously detrimental to the drive or if it'll survive passively cooled?

I wouldn't. Chances are, the inclosure won't *ever* let your HD spin down, seriously reducing the life of your disk. That fan's a disksaver.
