im wanting to build my own external hdd but a little confused on what connections to get. The hdd im lokking at getting is a Seagate 120gb ultra ATA for $30 after rebates and what not. Then im shopping at newegg for my external hdd case and the only options for the internal connections that they give is either IDE or SATA. What the hell do I choose and also what are some reputable brands for the cases?

IDE, Ultra ATA, PATA, Parallel ATA, Ultra DMA all refer to the popular bus which has dominated hard drive interfaces for the last decade. Your hard drive is compatible with any IDE-based enclosure you encounter. For that matter, any 3.5" hard drive enclosure that does NOT require a Serial ATA (aka SATA) drive will work.
