Currently I have an external HDD (120GB) connected to my laptop via firewire. I'm running out of space (I use it for backups) and I want to upgrade it to a larger one, possible 250GB or more. I'm wondering if there is a storage limit for external HDDs? I know for internal ones, my laptop bios only recognises HDDs up to 60GB. What does windows support up to?

I run Win XP home. Specs on sig - C2210

thx

It is a limit to the External Case, nothing else.

Vantec's ones the nice sleek metalic ones can hold upto 400g Drives they told me.

As long as you've got SP1 (2?) installed, you'll have no problems with big disks.

I have SP1...I think thats up to 126GB? so basically I need to upgrade to SP2?

Are you sure XP has the 120 gb limit? I am pretty sure windows 2kpro does not have that problem and I would sure imagine that XP would not.

The big limiting factor as others have said is simply the firewire box and its onboard controller.
