Hi, I'm looking into getting an External HD.

What is the CHEAPEST and most Decent Around.
I say Most Decent, because I know you can't get the BEST without spending the cash.

Looking for anything 20GB--to whatever. So long as its cheapish. I don't want to spend too much. Cheapish would be anything Under 200 dollars, and preferably between 80--130 dollars.
 
Um...^^ That has nothing about a HD...I don't want cables...
 
This cable makes ANY PARALLEL HARD DRIVE external. Buy it just like you would an internal one. :rolleyes:
 
Oh...well...I don't really want to do that...
Though that is interesting now. Besides, if I were to use an Internal drive, I'd use ones that I have, which are all SATA and those cables aren't for SATA...
 
the point is.. purchase a cheaper internal drive + the cheap cable. Overall it costs less than an external drive and is more flexible in the future.

Or instead of getting just a cable, get a mini enclosure for it (vantec makes a nice one, nexstar, that i own and like)

I'm not going to purchase Maxtors. I've got nothing against their reliability, or performance, but I hate their 1 year warranty.... :D

Its alright, I would go with an external enclosure and purchase a regular internal IDE HDD to slap in it. You will get the benefits that the other posters made (expandibility, etc).

Another reason I won't go for a pre-made external, I want to know _exactly_ the drive/specs I am getting so I'll build it myself.

To be honest, other than your price, you've given no real requirements (USB, Firewire, sATA). And to be further honest, you're not going to get your 200GB for your pricerange in a retail outlet. The only way to fill all your requirements is to build yourself. ~$40 for enclosure, ~$100 for HDD to fill it.
 
i would say either get one like that one you linked to at best buy.. or make one.. whichever is cheaper..

just search "external enclosure" on newegg.. .. no, don't search it, go to "shop by category", then clikc on external enclosure.. then choose 3.5inch from the dropdown menu.. i posted that rosewill becuase it doesn't look like a cheap plastic piece of shit with USB or something written on the outside.. or stupid green lights..

so buying one get's you about 80gb for $100.. 2mb cache.. 7200 rpm
building one = $40 enclosure + http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ductCategoryId=pcmcat33200050001&type=product for $59.. if you want to wait for rebates.. which i personally HATE..


it is up to you.. you can find great deals at B+M stores.. my dad got some 60gb drives for $30 each with no rebates at staples a few months ago.. that + a $30-$40 enclosure would be fine..
