External HD with auto power saving features?

I plan on setting up a linksys router with an external USB2 HD enclosure for network storage.

But because it's connected to a router and not a computer, I would like to have an enclosure with built in power saving features that doesn't need a computer to tell it when to spindown or power off.

Are there any out there? Preferably in 2.5inch Laptop drive sized format.

I don't think what you're looking for exists. Power management is done by sending signals over the IDE or sata bus, so you'd need a fairly complicated set of logic to create those signals from the enclosure itself. What router are you using? If it's one of the Linuxable ones, you may be able to make customized firmware to spin the disk down.
