External HD + Windows ME

Ok, I need to reformat an NTFS external hard drive (USB) into FAT32 so that Windows ME can access it.

Currently, I can install "drivers" for the disk. It shows up (in device manager) in the "storage device" section as a "disk drive". I can choose to use "Disk Drive [6-8-2000]" or "USB Disk [6-8-2000]" as the driver when I "update driver" and choose "display a list of all drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want".

Neither of these have any effect. I can't see anything pertaining to the HD in "My Computer" and when I click the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" icon in the system tray, it says: "Stop USB Disk - Drive:))". So it doesn't have a drive letter. How do I reformat this thing?????

The only options in "My Computer" are (4 of em): 3 1/2 Floppy (A:), HP_PAVILION (C:), Compact Disc (M:), and Control Panel.

anyone? Come on guys, you are the HDD gurus. :p A simple thing like reformatting an external shouldn't be that hard.
 
Do you have a Win2K or WinXp install CD? If so, you can boot from the setup CD... and use it to remove the NTFS partitions... then restart without actually installiing 2K or XP.
 
Try "fdisk" under command prompt. I've stayed away from ME with all my strength, but it should do the trick if they didn't butcher that too.
