All of a sudden my external HD says it's not formatted when I try and access it. It has a lot of important information on there and there are no backups. I know if it's that important you should make backups, but it's my mom's work stuff and she didn't know better. Am I screwed? or can this be resolved w/ out re formatting the drive? OS is winXP if it matters.

try a knoppix cd and mount it that way. if that doesn't work... well.. sucks to be you.
