I just bought a Bytecc External USB 2.0 Hard Drive Enclosure.
I put a 4.3gb Western Digital drive in, set it to master, and hooked everything up.
When I plug the USB cable in and turn on the power to the drive, windows finds the drive, but I can not see it in My Computer. I check in Disk Management and it does not show up there either.
Its not in removeable drives either. Everything shows up in device manager just fine, but for some reason I can not get it to work.
I took the drive out, put it in another pc, and deleted the partition, remade the partition, and formatted. I put the drive back into the enclosure, and it still will not work in XP.
Does anyone know how to make it work?
I have seen this problem happen to several people, but no one seemed to ever get a fix.

Loook for BIOS options that might apply

Start > Run > (type) diskmgmnt.msc > Action Button Rescan Disks

if not
Device Manager > remove the Drive and reboot
add it back in through the add hardware wizard

does it require a driver?

i tried doing the start/run/diskmgmnt.msc and windows says it cant find that file.
i have already rebooted with the drive powered on, and also removed it, rebooted, reinstalled, with no luck.
the box says it does not require a driver in xp.

Try uninstalling the USB controllers in Device Manager
and search the BIOS as well, then reboot and reload (which will more than likely be automatic) check for new chipset drivers (and search the mobo FAQ for similar issues)
